Wars of ancient history were about possessions, territory, power, control, family, betrayal, lover's quarrel, politics and sometimes religion.

But we are in the Modern era and supposedly more educated and enlightened .

Think about this. Don't just brush off these questions.

  • Why is RELIGION still involved in WARS? Isn't religion supposed to be about PEACE?
  • Ask yourself; What religion always campaign to have its religious laws be accepted as government laws, always involved in wars and consistently causing WARS, yet insists that it's a religion of peace?

WHY??

There are only two kinds of people who teach tolerance:
  1. The Bullies. They want you to tolerate them so they can continue to maliciously deprive you. Do not believe these bullies teaching tolerance, saying that it’s the path to prevent hatred and prejudice.
  2. The victims who are waiting for the right moment to retaliate. They can’t win yet, so they tolerate.

Gov’t troops encounter lawless elements in Dinas

GUIPOS, Zamboanga del Sur (PIA) – LtCol. Virgilio Hamos Jr., commanding officer of the 53rd Infantry (Matapat) Battalion, Philippine Army said government troops conducting hot pursuit operation in Barangay East Migpulao, Dinas town encountered a group of heavily armed men on Saturday.

In an interview over RMN DXPR, the army official said the soldiers led by 2Lt Oliver Carmen were conducting hot pursuit operation to track down lawless elements who ambushed an army vehicle in Barangay Guinicolalay in Dinas town on November 21.

Killed during the previous encounter was 2Lt. Joseph Cartajena while 3 soldiers were wounded.

Hamos said a brief fire fight ensued between the troops and the armed men which resulted to the death of Norhan Ambol, the alleged leader of the group who was responsible for the November 21 ambush.

The dead body of Ambol which was turned over to the municipal police station on Sunday was confirmed by his family and relatives.

During the incident, another member of the armed men reportedly died and some were wounded. No casualty was reported on the government side.

“I am happy that there were no casualties on our side,” Hamos announced.

He also said that the unidentified dead body was brought by their enemies and only the body of Ambol was recovered.

“The people were happy upon learning that Ambol was already dead,” Hamos said adding that the insurgents could no longer disturb the peace that residents are enjoying now.

He encouraged the civilian community to extend their support to the government forces by giving information on the presence of insurgents in their respective barangays.

Twister destroys 11 houses in Zamboanga del Sur

ZAMBOANGA CITY (PNA) -- Six houses were totally destroyed while five others were partially damaged by a twister in a remote village of Zamboanga del Sur.

Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre, Zamboanga del Sur police director, on Tuesday said inclement weather triggered the tornado that hit a farming village in Tambulig town.

Ecaldre said there was no casualty except for the destruction of the houses when the twister hit Purok 4, Barangay Upper Tiparak, Tambulig, Zamboanga Del Sur at about 5 p.m. Monday.

He said the Tambulig police has immediately coordinated with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) for the conduct of relief operations.

The MDRRMO has yet to ascertain the total cost of damage brought about by the cyclone.

Crime syndicate leader dies in Zamboanga del Sur clash

JOINT police and military forces have killed an alleged criminal syndicate leader in a clash in a remote village in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, an official announced on Sunday, November 27.

Senior Superintendent Sofronio Ecaldre, Zamboanga del Sur police director, said the clash occurred around 1:25 p.m., Saturday, November 26, at Sitio Balaisan in the village of East Migpulao, Dinas municipality.

Ecaldre identified the slain as Nuh Ambol, who is the number one high value target drug personality and the number two most wanted person in the Zamboanga Peninsula (Western Mindanao).

Ecaldre said the troops were conducting security patrol when they encountered around 10 fully armed men led by Ambol.

He said the firefight lasted for 15 minutes that resulted to Ambol’s death while his followers fled to different directions.

The police director said Ambol, the leader of the Ambol Group, has standing warrants of arrest for the crimes of murder, illegal possession of firearms and direct assault.

1FAB holds stakeholders’ engagement training

LABANGAN, Zamboanga del Sur (PIA) – Some 15 members of the 1st Field Artillery (Beat ‘Em) Battalion, Army Artillery Regiment, Philippine Army underwent intensive training on Stakeholders’ engagement at Camp Major Cesar Sang-an, Pulacan, this municipality on Nov. 15-24.

LtCol. Archie A. Ares, executive officer of 1FAB said the training is anchored on the implementation of the Internal Peace and Security Plan (IPSP) “Bayanihan” campaign of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The AFP believes that the nation is confronted with complex problems and these can never be addressed through raising arms and force but by stakeholders’ engagement.

The campaign emphasizes the primary focus of the AFP in the conduct of its operations is not just defeating the enemy, but winning the peace as well.

He said during the 10-day training, participants were taught how to engage and interact with key stakeholders to help win the hearts and minds of the Filipino people.

“With the participants’ interaction to the different key stakeholders, we will certainly win the peace,” the army official said.

The soldiers underwent immersion in adopted barangays by offering their services and support in all activities such as tree planting, feeding and Medical and Dental Civic Action Program (MEDCAP) services, among others.

Participants also conducted clean-up drive in Tawagan Norte Barangay Hall and Tawagan Norte National High School with the help of barangay officials, teachers and students.

Meanwhile, Ares encouraged the participants to apply the theories and concepts they learned from their instructors to contribute in the attainment of peace in our country.

Pagadian City HVT drug personality nabbed

POLICE operatives have arrested in a drug bust one of the high value target (HVT) drug personalities in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, an official announced Thursday, November 24.

Zamboanga del Sur Police Director Sofronio Ecaldre identified the suspect as Naira Baradzar of Pagadian City.

Ecaldre said Baradzar was arrested after he sold a sachet of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, to an undercover policeman around 8:45 a.m., Wednesday at Zone 3 in the village of Muricay, Pagadian City.

He said Baradzar ranks number four in the list of HVT drug personalities in the city.

He said the arresting team seized from the possession of Baradzar P200 marked money, three plastic sachets of shabu, and other illegal drug paraphernalia.

Ecaldre said cases for violation of Sections 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against Baradzar.

Pagadian City launches MASAMASID, first in ZamPen

PAGADIAN CITY (PIA) – The city government of Pagadian launched on Tuesday (November 15) the national program dubbed Mamamayang Ayaw sa Anomalya, Mamamayang Ayaw sa Iligal na Droga (MASAMASID) along with the city’s initiative called “BARKADA KONTRA DROGA,” against the proliferation of illegal drugs and criminality held at Taclobo Stage, this city.

Department of Interior and Local Government IX (DILG-9) Regional Director Paisal O. Abutazil in his keynote speech congratulated the city officials for being the first local government unit in Zamboanga Peninsula to launch this program.

“We all know the ill-effects of illegal drugs and we have to be serious on this campaign. We have seen President Rodrigo Duterte’s commitment and strong vision to make the Philippines a drug-free country,” Director Abutazil emphasized.

Abutazil said that because the President has the political will on this campaign against illegal drugs, it is incumbent upon the LGUs to support this move. “This campaign is not only for us, but this is also for the next generation,” he further said.

“The Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the local government officials cannot do this alone without the support of the community. We need the help and support of everybody,” he told the audience.

After the brief program, the pledge of commitment was signed by Mayor Romeo P. Pulmones, DILG-9 Director Paisal O. Abutazil, PNP PSSupt Sofronio Elcadre, 53rd Batallion, PA Commander LTC Virgilio Hamos, Jr., PDEA Agent Antonio Suano, City Police Chief PSupt. Michael Palermo, Liga ng mga Barangay President Hon. Jurofer P. Pulmones and members of the City Council led by Vice Mayor Ernesto Mondarte.

Pagadian City's No. 4 illegal drug personality falls

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Nov. 24 (PNA) -- Anti-illegal drugs operatives of the police nabbed on Thursday during a buy-bust operation one of the high value target drug personalities in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.

Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre, Zamboanga del Sur police director, on Thursday said the HVT drug personality, Naira Baradzar, was arrested after the latter sold a sachet of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) to an undercover cop.

Girl, 4, stabbed by dad, suspect drinks poison

A four-year-old girl was critically wounded when she was stabbed by her father before the latter tried to commit suicide by drinking poison the other day in Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur.

The victim, identified as Daisy Mae Anghad, was taken to Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center for treatment due to two stab wounds in the body.

The victim’s father, identified as Promencio Anghad, 57, was also taken to the same hospital.

According to Police Regional Office (PRO) 9 spokesman Supt. Michael Nicolas, the incident occurred at around 3:30 p.m (November 17). inside Anghad’s house located at Purok Malinawon B, Bgy. Paglaum, Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur.

Accordingly, the suspect had a fight with his wife due to jealousy and because of his frustration, he stabbed his daughter twice.

After the incident, the suspect took a pesticide tablet and swallowed it.

The victim and the suspect were rushed by their relatives to the hospital.

3 cops, 3 others hurt in highway mishap

SIX people, including three policemen, were injured when the vehicle they were riding fell into a ditch in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Monday, November 21.

Zamboanga del Sur Police Director Sofronio Ecaldre said the incident occurred around 12:45 a.m., Sunday at Purok San Vicente in the village of Libertad, Aurora municipality.

Ecaldre identified the victims as the following: Police Officer 1 Ner Narciso Jr., Police Officer 1 Liezel Miñoza, Police Officer 2 Sannie Miñoza, Aira Lee Miñoza, Juhora Miñoza and Jeneval del Castillo.

Ecaldre said the victims were aboard a police vehicle driven by Narciso who lost control of the steering wheel while trying to evade a road barrier after he got passed an incoming vehicle with high beam light.

The police vehicle fell into a ditch along the highway in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur.

He said the victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.

2 troopers killed, 2 others wounded in Zamboanga Del Sur clash

MANILA, Nov. 21 (PNA) --- Two troopers were killed while another two were wounded after they were attacked by heavily-armed men in Dinas, Zamboanga Del Sur, Monday morning.

Western Mindanao Command (WMC) spokesperson Major Filemon Tan said the incident took place at 8:28 this morning, in Purok 4, Guinicolalay, Dinas town.

Fallen and wounded troops are from Joint Task Force ZAMPELAN engaged in "Bayanihan" activities in the area.

"As a result, the government side suffered two killed and two wounded in action, while undetermined on the enemy side. Names of the casualties were not yet released pending notification of their immediate families," he added.

Additional military assets were dispatched for reinforcement and casualty evacuation.

As this develops, 1st Infantry Division public affairs office chief Lt. Col. Benedicto Manquiquis said the casualties are from the 53rd Infantry Battalion.

‘Kutitap’, a kid’s kaleidoscope

To gather a bunch of sixty plus children aged 7-13 years who not only speak different dialects but also come from far-flung regions with diverse cultures, teach them to perform a song and dance number, participate in storytelling and craftsmaking activities, and encourage them to get along with each other in just three days is a herculean task indeed.

While taking care of all the artistic and logistic needs of the children, including their adult guides, accommodating them in one locality may already be a challenge, but moving the venue to another place outside of Manila is another obstacle.

Despite all the hardships, however, the smile on each kid’s face and the countless gratitude spoken by every boy or girl for the love and care they receive is both heartwarming and priceless. These are some of many scenes that had made the “Kutitap” event different from among other child-oriented projects.

Now on its 7th year, “Kutitap” is a project of the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Cultural Exchange Department under the leadership of Carmencita “Chinggay” Bernardo. It is aimed at instilling among the Filipino children and youth a deep sense of understanding, appreciation and pride for Philippine arts, indigenous culture, as well as to promote creativity and positive social values.

“Kutitap” conducted interactive activities to include mini-workshops and showcases (in dance, drama, music, rituals, visual arts, etc.), storytelling, crafting, traditional games, film viewing, group discussions, creative collaboration, educational-exposure tours, among other events.

Since the first gathering in 2009, “Kutitap” has already reached more than 2,611 children from 85 local communities nationwide. In 2011, the project was redesigned for the benefit of the children in Northern Luzon (Hagonoy, Calumpit, Macabebe-Pampanga, & Jaen-Nueva Ecija) which was badly affected by typhoons Pedring and Quiel.

For the first time in 2015, Kutitap was brought out of the CCP and was hosted by the City of Batangas. It was also the first time that the program was filmed and presented as part of the Children of Asia research project under the Asian Culture Institute (ACI) in Gwangju, South Korea. The film made by Kevin K. Park was shown during the opening of the Asia Culture Center (ACC) in Korea.

“The CCP thru its outreach programs has long been initiating programs to open the minds of the Filipino children to be happy, creative, intelligent, and show love for our country, culture, tradition and not be ashamed of our race,” Chinggay says of the project. From Luzon, Kutitap expanded its reach to the Visayas particularly in Capiz, a first class province in the Western Visayas region whose capital is Roxas City and located at the northeastern portion of Panay island, bordering Aklan and Antique to the west, and Iloilo to the south.

Capiz faces the Sibuyan Sea to the north, andis known for the Placuna placenta oyster shell that has the same name locally which is used for decoration and making lampshades, trays, and window doors. Likewise, the province is known as the country’s Seafood Capital.

In partnership with the Province of Capiz, CCP’s latest undertaking entitled “7th Kutitap: Isang Piging ng Kabataang Makasining” took place on October 23-26, 2016 at the Gerry Roxas Foundation Resource Center in Roxas City. The event was presented in celebration of the National Indigenous Peoples’ Month and the National Children’s Month.

The sixty participating children, together with their adult guides representing various cultural communities all over the country were chosen for the three-day celebration of arts, culture and traditions.

They come from the following cultural communities, among them, Mindanao – Subanen Get’aw Te’bud (Zamboanga del Sur); Sama Kabingaan (Zamboanga del Sur); Mangguangan (Davao del Norte); Bagobo-Tagabawa (Davao del Sur); Tagakaolo (Davao Oriental). Visayas – Ati (Malay-Aklan); Ati & Panay-Bukindon (Dumarao/Tapaz/Jamindan, Capiz); Ilonggo (Iloilo); Waray-Bisaya (Biliran). Luzon – Isabelino (San Manuel, Isabela); Bicolono (Paracale, Camarines Norte); Kapampangan (Angeles,Pampanga); Romblomanon (Romblon); and children from Valenzuela City (NCR).

The experience of being in company with such a diverse and awe-inspiring composition of young artistic minds for a brief period of time did not pass without any tinge of drama though. Ara, a young dusky girl from the Ati group in Malay-Aklan, got the biggest surprise of her life one morning when she was gifted with a dainty and colorful birthday cake while being greeted by young and adult friends.

Having just turned thirteen, she cried unabashedly and said “Maraming salamat!” (Thank you!) for the gesture. Her group leader explained later while comforting the child that the incident was actually a fulfillment of two of Ara’s fondest wishes since she never had a birthday cake to celebrate the occasion in her entire life. Another wish she had was to step inside a shopping mall.

Kenchi Sean dela Concepcion, the youngest boy from the Kapampangan (Angeles, Pampanga) group known for performing with unique instruments made of bamboo, was a quiet type most of the time but loved to sing. His group leader said that although the kid has dyslexia (a learning disorder characterized by difficulty in reading or interpreting words, letters, and other symbols, but that do not affect general intelligence), Kenchi managed to memorize and even lead in singing the Tagalog songs they were practicing for the closing program, thanks to the encouragement of a female adult guide.

They were surprised by the turnout since they had difficulty getting the child to sing in “Bale-Balayan” (museum /art art center in Angeles City. Another poignant story from the same group was about their tardiness in arriving for their departure to Capiz. Their reason behind the late arrival, which was understandable, pointed to the responsibility shouldered by two of its young members – Arvin Lenon had to finish selling his basket of balut (fertilized duck egg) for the day, and Reynold Pagador had to carry out scavenging.

As the young participants share their thoughts and talent through art in Kutitap, one cannot help but realize the importance of child rearing and parenting. And in the society they live in today, the children have actually very simple wishes. To quote some of the lines from an inspirational song entitled SANA by Ana Nobleza which the kids sang and performed for its closing program:

“Sana ang buhay ay walang dulo o hangganan Sana’y wala nang taong mahirap o mayaman Sana’y isa ang kulay, sana’y wala ng away

Sana’y pag-ibig na lang ang isipin ng bawat isa sa mundo Sana’y pag-ibig na lang ang isipin, sana’y magkatotoo Sana’y laging magbigayan, sana’y laging magmahalan.”

Farmer Cuffed for RA 9165 and RA 10591 Violations

A farmer was arrested by joint PNP personnel of Lakewood MPS and 2nd Mobile Platoon of Zamboanga Del Sur Public Safety Company during the implementation of a search warrant at Purok 10, Barangay Poblacion, Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur at about 5:30 AM on November 01, 2016.

Suspect was identified as Lucio Ampalit y Masulong, 37, resident of abovementioned place. This by virtue of a search warrant for Violation of RA 10591 (Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and Violation of RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002), issued by RTC Branch 29, Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur. Confiscated during the operation include a Colt cal. 45 Pistol with SN 936418 with one magazine, four rounds of Cal. 45 ammo, four sachets of shabu, and drug parapheprnalia. Subject person is now temporarily detained at Lakewood MPS while appropriate cases are being prepared for filing in court.

DILG cites Pagadian as first LGU to implement MASA MASID in Region 9

PAGADIAN CITY, Nov. 18 (PIA) – The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG-9) lauded the Pagadian City government for being the first local government unit (LGU) in Region 9 to launch the program, “Mamamayang Ayaw sa Anomalya, Mamamayang Ayaw sa Iligal na Droga” (MASA MASID).

DILG-9 Regional Director Paisal O. Abutazil, in his message during the formal launch of “MASA MASID “ at the Taclobo Stage, Plaza Luz congratulated the officialdom of the city for sincerely implementing the program.

“Pagadian City prides itself for being the 1st LGU who have launched MASA MASID in region 9,” Abutazil proudly announced before the crowd of government employees, local government officials, and academe.

MASA MASID is a community-based anti-criminality, anti-corruption, and anti-illegal drugs program which encourages multi-sectoral partnership to intensify the spirit of volunteerism at the community level.

The purpose of the campaign is to heighten community involvement by mobilizing the support of local stakeholders, volunteers, civic organizations, faith-based organizations, and the private sectors in the fight against illegal drugs, criminality and corruption.

President Rodrigo R. Duterte has issued marching orders for war on drugs, crime, and corruption, thus it is incumbent upon the LGUs to support the program.

Abutazil cited the negative consequences of illegal drugs saying that it does not only affect individuals but also their families and friends.

“The government is very serious in this campaign to make the Philippines a drug-free country,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mayor Romeo P. Pulmones also launched the “Barkada Kontra Droga,” a flagship program of the city in its relentless campaign against illegal drugs, which encourages everyone to drive out illegal drugs in their communities.

The mayor expressed confidence that with the program, it will not only make Pagadian drug-free but also a peaceful and livable city.

On the other hand, Senior Supt. Sofronio Elcadre, PNP provincial director said the PNP recently launched “Kontra sa Krimen at Katiwalian” (KKK) mobile application project at Liga City Convention Center.

KKK is in support to the MASA MASID campaign. “It is a reporting system where it encourages every concerned citizen and volunteer to report to the authorities those involved in illegal drugs, criminality and corruption,” the police chief explained.

1st Infantry Division fetes Zamboanga Sibugay Mayors’ League

Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur (PIA) -- A testimonial parade and review in honor of the Mayors League of Zamboanga Sibugay was held yesterday at Camp Major Cesar Sang-an, home to the army’s premier division, the 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division (1ID).

As the local chief executives were trooping the line with MGen Gerardo F. Barrientos Jr., 1ID commander, their role as leaders were cited. For one, the mayor is an important community leader promoting positive relationships and good governance and the spokesperson on economic issues, or when the community is under stress such as disaster management and other crisis.

“This is an expression of our gratitude to their untiring support in our mission accomplishment as well as for their strong cooperation as stakeholders in achieving a peaceful and progressive Zamboanga Sibugay,” Col. Jacinto R. Bareng, chief of staff, said in his welcome message.

“We have attained a significant mark in our vision for Zamboanga Sibugay when it was declared conflict-manageable and development-ready province on 24 November 2014. It then enhanced the relationship between the local government unit, Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines in putting to an end the various threats present in the community,” Bareng emphasized.

He added that it also strengthened and capacitated the local PNP to take primary responsibility in terms of peace, security and public safety. As an offshoot, the level of insurgency in the province has decreased through the years.

Zamboanga Sibugay Mayors League President Mayor Anamel C. Olegario of Ipil acknowledged and thanked MGen Barrientos, Col. Nixon M. Fortes, commander of the 102nd Infantry “IGSOON” Brigade, and the Tabak troopers for the honor given to them.

“On behalf of the Mayors League, I thank you for this honor. This is the first time and the only time that we were given such recognition. Tumitindig ang mga balahibo ko (I was having goosebumps) while we were trooping the line. Nakakataba ng puso ang ginawa ninyo sa amin,” (What you did was so heartwarming) Mayor Olegario said filled with emotion.

“We salute the professional men and women who represent our first line of insurance. Mag unsa nalang mi ug wala mo? (What would we do without you?) All of us mayors know that with the army behind us, we could achieve lasting peace and security in Zamboanga Sibugay,” Mayor Olegario said positively.

Highlighting the activity was the distribution of plaques and certificates to the local chief executives for the assistance and support through good governance which greatly attributed to the success of the command’s internal peace and security operations in the spirit of Bayanihan.

Barrientos lauded the remarkable achievements of the LCEs and the strong partnership with the army. “I know that you are facing many challenges as LCEs, from political, social to economic struggle, to make your municipality a better place to live,” the commanding general said.

PIA-9 is ISO certified

PAGADIAN CITY (PIA) - The Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-9 has been conferred with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2008 certification for its quality management system (QMS) on the provision of support services to presidential and development communications after its Second Surveillance Certification conducted here recently.

The certificate is awarded after an audit that the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 are met down to the regional offices of PIA.

Regional Director Noemi B. Edaga said this is an indication that PIA-9 is being true to its commitment to deliver timely, accurate and relevant information to all its customers.

“Thank you for your dedication to work and for your aspiration to improve our processes in conformance to PIA's set of standards,” she said expressing her gratitude to all personnel after receiving the certificate.

Director General Harold E. Clavite has also sent a letter expressing his congratulations to all the regions, its officials and staff, for the remarkable achievement of the ISO surveillance certification.

“The feat is a demonstration that PIA has taken quality seriously as tool for good organization management practice,” he stressed.

He said organizations recognized by ISO that implement a quality management system have a stronger place and recognition in their respective sectors.

The implementation of Quality Management Standards has earned global recognition as a cornerstone for establishing long term benefits for any organization. This includes higher efficiency, improved customer satisfaction, more profit and better communication, internally and with external customers.

2 Drug HVTs in ZC and Margosatubig, 4 Others Nabbed

PAIDSOTG-Zamboanga Del Sur PPO operatives and Margosatubig MPS conducted a buy-bust operation at Sitio Samboang, Barangay Poblacion, Margosatubig, Zamboanga Del Sur on November 4, 2016 at about 2:30 PM. This led to the arrest of Edgar Baylon y Bersuela a.k.a. Eduardo, 44, a dispatcher at the Margosatubig AUV terminal, and resident of Purok Palmera, Barangay Poblacion, Margosatubig, Zamboanga del Sur.

Said suspect is a high value target. Confiscated from him were two small sachets of shabu drug paraphernalia, and marked money. Said suspect is now temporarily detained at said police station while cases for violation of section 5, 11 and 12 of Article II of RA 9165 is being prepared for filing in court.

Operatives of Zamboanga City Police Station 8 (Sinunuc) SAIDSOTG held a buy-bust operation at Kubul Caragasan, Barangay Maasin, Zamboanga City at about 3:30 PM on November 4, 2016. This resulted in the arrest of Najir Alawi y Katala, 26, listed as the number 7 High Value Target under Zamboanga City PS8. Recovered from him were the marked money, six sachets of suspected shabu, and drug paraphernalia. The suspect’s companion named Junel Salip y Sali, 29, of Zone 1, Barangay Cawit was also arrested. Recovered from him were two sachets of suspected shabu, and drug paraphernalia. Both suspects are temporarily detained at said police station for filing appropriate charges in court.

This resulted in the arrest of Isa Lawan y Asali, 48, of Purok 5A, Brgy. Recodo, this city. Lawan is identified as a local drug pusher in the area included in the drug watch list of Zamboanga City PS9 (Ayala). Confiscated from him were three sachets of suspected shabu, and marked money.

SAIDSOTG personnel of Zamboanga City Police Station 3 conducted an anti-Illegal drugs operation (buy-bust) in Barangay Sangali, Zamboanga City at about 1:10 AM on November 5, 2016. This resulted in the arrest of Hakim Manuel y Salahuddin, 18, resident of said barangay, who is include in the watch list of said police station. Two sachets of suspected shabu, drug paraphernalia, and marked money were confiscated from him. Suspect is presently detained at said police station pending the filing of appropriate charges against him.

This was followed by another buy-bust operation on another drug personality in Purok 5A, Barangay Recodo, Zamboanga City at about 5:50 AM on November 4, 2016. This resulted in the arrest of Norcel Usman y Abdurakman, 49. Confiscated from him were four sachets of suspected shabu, marked money, and drug paraphernalia. The arrested suspects are presently detained at said station for filing of appropriate cases.

3 Nabbed in Pagadian Drug Bust

Three individuals were arrested during a drug buy-bust operation in Purok Makabibihag, Barangay Sta. Lucia, Pagadian City at about 12:10 AM on November 4, 2016.

The suspects were identified as Ahbar Salilama Abbas a.k.a “Bab’’, 27, a resident of Purok Doña Isabel, Barangay Dalapang, Labanga, Zamboanga Del Sur, Badroden Abo Allah a.k.a. “Badz”, 23, resident of Purok Doña Isabel, Barangay Dalapang and Saddam Dolonan Ampatu a.k.a. “Dam”, 23, driver, resident of Purok Malipayon, Barangay Upper Sang-an, Labangan. A sachet of shabu, a Racal motorcycle, drug paraphernalia, and marked money were confiscated from them. Furthermore, investigation conducted by Pagadian City PS revealed that suspect Ahbar Abbas is also involved in a shooting incident that transpired at around 8:45 AM on October 30, 2016 at Luis Pharmacy in Pulmones Street, Barangay Sta. Lucia, Pagadian City wherein the victim was Raul Ngojo y Magsayo, a fisherman. The arrested suspects are temporarily detained in Pagadian City Police Station.

Zamboanga del Sur town official dies in gun attack

A TOWN official was killed in a drive-by gun attack by riding-in-tandem gunman in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Sunday.

Zamboanga del Sur Police Director Sofronio Ecaldre identified the slain town official as Momar Dris, 38, a councilor of Dimataling municipality.

Ecaldre said Dris was gunned down around 12:50 p.m., Saturday, at Purok Lower Lomboy in the village of Tuburan, Pagadian City, the capital of Zamboanga del Sur.

Investigation showed the town official was seated in his Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) parked at the roadside when repeatedly shot by the suspects that passed beside the SUV.

Ecaldre said the victim was rushed but did not reached alive in the hospital.

Ecaldre said investigation continues in a bid to unmask the identities of the suspects, who sped off after they shot the town official.

PRU Life UK’s Football For A Better Life goes to Pagadian

THE FOOTBALL For A Better Life (FFABL) grassroots developmental program sponsored by PRU Life UK for the second straight year holds the seventh leg on Nov. 12-13 in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur. This marks the first time in recent years that the city is hosting a football event of this kind.

Over 60 teams coming from Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Dipolog, Ozamis City, Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, and Cotabato City have confirmed participation in the football festival featuring different age groups: from 8 & Under to 18 & Under for boys and girls, and Open Divisions for men and women.

On Nov. 12, Saturday, 6 to 12 year-old boys and girls to be given a free football clinic by former Azkals skipper Chieffy Caligdong, goal keeping coach Ref Cuaresma, and PRU Life UK football ambassador Graham Caygill.

“We are happy to have been able to bring the FFABL to Pagadian City for the first time and we are impressed with the response from different provinces and cities in the region,” said Lee Longa, Chief Financial Officer of PRU Life UK which is also supporting the Azkals and the 14 & Under football team.

The FFABL tournament and clinic is supported by Zamboanga del Sur Governor Antonio Cerilles, Vice-Governor Wililiam Cerilles, Pagadian City Mayor Romeo Pulmones, and Dumalinao Mayor Junaflor Cerilles.

The clinic will be held at the Dumalinao Regional Pilot School while the football tournament will be at the Zamboanga del Sur Provinical Center in Pagadian. For 2016, FFABL has visited Gingoog, Tarlac, Dumaguete, Dipolog, Laguna, and Tagum City.

Before the year ends, FFABL will have tournaments and training sessions in Baguio, Subic, and NCR.

Football for a Better Life is co-organized by SPEARS Sports, Azkals Foundation and the provincial and regional football associations.

Syndicate member dies, official nabbed in drug bust

A SUSPECTED drug syndicate member was killed while a village official was arrested in anti-drugs operations in the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur, the police said Friday, November 11.

Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula Spokesman Michael Nicolas identified the slain alleged drug syndicate member as Mohammad Sabuddin, 32 and Russel Candia, 44, a village councilor of Tagulo, Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte.

Nicolas said Sabuddin was killed in a shootout at 9:05 p.m., Thursday, in the village of Sirawai proper, Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte.

Nicolas said the shootout ensued as Sabuddin opened fire while the combined police and military operatives were conducting law enforcement operation through the service of search warrant and anti-drugs operation at the residence of Erwin Dacula alias Thots, who managed to elude arrest.

Nicolas said recovered from the slain suspect’s possession were a caliber .45 pistol with ammunition.

Recovered from the residence of Dacula were M-16 Armalite rifle with ammunition, nine small-sized heat-sealed plastic sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu and two pieces of aluminum foil.

Nicolas said that Candia was arrested in a drug bust around 7:45 a.m., Thursday, at Purok Padayhag Uno in the village of San Carlos, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur.

Confiscated from the possession of Candia were four small-sized heat-sealed plastic sachets of suspected shabu, P200 marked money consisting of two P100 bills, a motorcycle and prohibited drug paraphernalia.

Nicolas said Candia was detained while appropriate case for violation of Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002 is set to be filed against the latter.

DILG launches MASA MASID in Region 9

2 'high value' drug personalities fall

THE police arrested two high-value target (HVT) drug personalities as the campaign against illegal drugs continue in Zamboanga City.

Senior Superintendent Michael Nicolas, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula spokesperson, identified the HVTs as Alvin Kalbi, 38 and Benito Albarida, 38.

Nicolas said Kalbi was arrested in a drug bust around 5 p.m., Monday, in the village of Sta. Maria, in the city.

Albarida was arrested in a separate drug bust around 1:30 p.m., Monday, at Sitio Liangan in the village of Kabatan, Vincenzo Sagun, Zamboanga del Sur.

Nicolas said confiscated from Kalbi, who is listed at number seven in the drug watch list of the police in Zamboanga City, was a large-sized plastic sachet of suspected shabu, P1,000 cash consisting of 10 P100 bills, wrist watch and a sling bag.

Nicolas said Albarida, like Kalbi, is listed as the number seven drug personality in Vincenzo Sagun, Zamboanga del Sur.

The police official said seized from Albarida’s possession were two small sizes of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu, P600 marked money consisting of six P100 bills and other prohibited drug paraphernalia.

Nicolas said the arrested suspects were detained while appropriate charges are set to be filed against them.

Stakeholders plant 2,500 mangrove seedlings in Labangan town

LABANGAN, Zamboanga del Sur, Nov. 7 (PIA) – In support to the government’s National Greening Program (NGP), the Rural Improvement Club (RIC), in partnership with the 1st Cavalry (Tagapanguna) Squadron, Mechanized Infantry Division, 1st Field Artillery Battalion, Army Artillery Regiment, and RMN DXPR radio station conducted a tree planting activity in barangay Combo, this municipality.

RIC President Maricor R. Cua said mangrove planting is a project of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) which aims to instill environmental awareness to the participants and to replenish the depleting mangroves along the coastlines of barangay Combo.

Mangroves protect shorelines from damaging storms, waves, and storm surges. They serve as a significant breeding ground for fish and other marine life. Healthy mangrove forests are key to a healthy marine ecology.

Cua said a total of 2,500 mangrove seedlings were successfully planted by the stakeholders.

“The seedlings that we planted serve as the replacement of the dead and lost plants in the 28-hectare muddy coast of the barangay,” Cua said.

Meanwhile Capt. Erikson Balanga, acting civil-military operations (CMO) officer of the 1st Cavalry Squadron, Mechanized Infantry Division said this is an opportunity for the troopers to explore more on planting mangroves, promote its conservation and rehabilitation.

“I am grateful that the troopers were given the opportunity to support the program of the government to combat climate change . As soldiers, it is our moral obligation to protect our environment by planting mangrove trees in coastal barangays,” Balanga explained.

“We are committed to fight not only the lawless elements in our society but also to join the fight against climate change,” Balanga said, adding that they do not want a super typhoon such as ‘Yolanda’ and ‘Lawin’ to happen again.

“It is the company’s steadfast commitment to actively support the national greening program of the government to prevent destruction wrought by natural disasters,” Melchor U. Coronel, DXPR station manager said, who brought with him his staff.

Coronel requires all licensed broadcasters who want to renew their Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) license to join tree planting activities.

“I am requiring KBP license holders to actively join tree planting activities to be conducted by the station and other partner agencies such as the 1FAB and 1CAV, for them to realize its significance and impact to environmental protection and preservation,” he concluded. (

Retired soldier dies in Zamboanga Sur gun attack

A RETIRED soldier was killed in a gun attack in a remote village of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported.

The Zamboanga del Sur Police Office reported that the shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. Thursday (October 27) at Purok 3 in the village of Gunicolay, Dinas town.

The police identified the fatality as retired Army Staff Sergeant Wilson Belda, 60.

Initial investigation showed Belda was at Purok 3 in the village of Gunicolay when fatally shot by a lone gunman.

Investigation continues to identity the gunman, the police said.

Gun slay suspect, 2 pals nabbed in Zambo Sur drug bust

A GUN slay suspect and his two companions were arrested in an anti-drug operation launched by the police in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, an official said Friday, November 4.

Senior Superintendent Sofronio Ecaldre, Zamboanga del Sur police director, identified the arrested suspects as Ahbar Salilama Abbas alias Bab, 27; Badroden Abo Allah alias Badz, 23; and, Saddam Dolonan Ampatu alias Dam, 23.

The police seized a sachet of methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu,” P200 marked money consisting of two P100 bills, a motorcycle, and prohibited drug paraphernalia.

Ecaldre said investigation showed that Abbas turned out to be one of the suspects behind the killing of Raul Ngoho on Sunday, October 30, at a pharmacy along Pulmones Street in the village of Sta. Lucia, Pagadian City.

Ngoho, a resident of the village of Mama, Dumalinao, was buying medicine when the suspect fatally shot him.

Ecaldre said the suspects were detained while appropriate charges are set to be filed against them. (Sunnex)

2 people die in Zambonga del Sur gun attacks

TWO people were killed in separate gun attacks in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police said Wednesday, November 2.

Zamboanga del Sur Police Director Sofronio Ecaldre identified the victims as Christopher Luardo, 26, and Carlito Salinas Jr., 22.

Ecaldre said Luardo was shot and killed by an unidentified person around 6:25 p.m. Monday, October 31, at Sitio Malig in the village of Poblacion, Kumalarang town.

Luardo succumbed to a single but fatal gunshot wound in the nape.

Salinas was killed, also by an unidentified person, around 7:48 p.m. Monday at Purok Tisa in the village of Poblacion, Pitogo.

Salinas sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot.

Ecaldre said investigation continues on both incidents to identify the suspects as well as to arrest them.

AAR chief lauds 1FAB for its outstanding accomplishments

LABANGAN, Zamboanga del Sur, Nov. 2 (PIA) – The Army Artillery Regiment (ARR) lauded the 1st Field Artillery Battalion for its outstanding accomplishments in the past year.

AAR commander Col. Erwin De Asis, in his message during the 30th Founding Anniversary of the unit at Camp Major Cesar Sang-an, Pulacan, this municipality said he was impressed with the performance of the 1FAB under the sterling leadership of LtCol. Hubert Acierto.

“Let me congratulate each one of you especially your dedicated battalion commander, officers, men and women of 1st FAB who selflessly devoted your time and effort for the success and accomplishment of your mission,” he said.

De Asis mentioned the significant accomplishments for the year as the supporting field artillery battalion of the 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division particularly for conducting 109 fire missions against terrorist groups in Butig, Lanao del Sur.

“In the execution of Oplan Haribon 1 and 2, you were able to fire a total of 1,297 rounds that significantly resulted to the destruction of the enemy encampment, neutralization of terrorist members, recovery of high powered firearms, and recovery of subversive documents with high intelligence value by the supported units,” De Asis proudly announced.

He also cited the combat readiness of the unit by providing 127 in-house and unit sustainment trainings to the officers and enlisted personnel. “This kind of initiatives, indeed, resulted to raising the proficiency level of your personnel in the conduct of field artillery operations,” he added.

He noted the active partnership between and among the 1FAB, local government units and non-government organizations, that being a well-disciplined unit, it has earned the trust and confidence of stakeholders in promoting peace and security in the region.

Through this partnership, the unit was able to conduct 39 civil-military operations such as: tree planting, blood-letting, feeding programs, Brigade Eskwela, media forums, and adopt-a-barangay program.

“You have selflessly dedicated your time and efforts in accomplishing these things in support to our AAR-wide efforts and in compliance to the Philippine Army’s inclusion in the island of good governance,” De Asis added.

Meanwhile, LtCol. Acierto said the troops are always focused, ready and capable of performing its mission of ensuring peace to pave the way for sustainable development.

Acierto said the “Beat Em” artillery men are now supporting the administration of President Rodrigo R. Duterte in its fight against terrorism.

As a gesture of our support to the anti-terrorism campaign of President Duterte, the unit deployed one (1) company of artillery men last September this year to support the Joint Task Force Sulu.

During the event, the 1FAB recognized the significant contribution of the stakeholders in the promotion of peace and security by awarding them certificates of recognition.

Police probe killing in Pagadian City

THE police are conducting a thorough probe over the killing of one person in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.

Pagadian City Police Chief Michael Palermo has ordered the case investigator to look into all possible motives to unmask the gunman behind the killing of Raul Ngoho.

Ngoho, a resident of the village of Mama, Dumalinao, Zamoanga del Sur, was shot and killed around 8:45 a.m., Sunday, October 30, along Pulmones Street in the village of Sta. Lucia, Pagadian City.

Initial investigation showed Ngoho going to Pagadian City purposely to buy medicine when the gunman appeared from behind and shot the victim without apparent reason.

Palermo said Ngoho, who sustained a bullet wound in the head, was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at a private hospital.
