Zamboanga City - Archived News

Wars of ancient history were about possessions, territory, power, control, family, betrayal, lover's quarrel, politics and sometimes religion.

But we are in the Modern era and supposedly more educated and enlightened .

Think about this. Don't just brush off these questions.

  • Why is RELIGION still involved in WARS? Isn't religion supposed to be about PEACE?
  • Ask yourself; What religion always campaign to have its religious laws be accepted as government laws, always involved in wars and consistently causing WARS, yet insists that it's a religion of peace?

WHY??

There are only two kinds of people who teach tolerance:
  1. The Bullies. They want you to tolerate them so they can continue to maliciously deprive you. Do not believe these bullies teaching tolerance, saying that it’s the path to prevent hatred and prejudice.
  2. The victims who are waiting for the right moment to retaliate. They can’t win yet, so they tolerate.

Dietary supplement is a product that contains vitamins, minerals, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids, enzymes, and/or other ingredients intended to supplement the diet. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has special labeling requirements for dietary supplements and treats them as foods, not drugs.

Manufacturers and distributors of dietary supplements and dietary ingredients are prohibited from marketing products that are adulterated or misbranded. That means that these firms are responsible for evaluating the safety and labeling of their products before marketing to ensure that they meet all the requirements of DSHEA and FDA regulations.

A Canadian Catholic priest is reviving a Chavacano radio drama

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines—A Canadian Catholic priest is reviving a radio drama in this city in a bid to preserve the Chavacano language.

"This is one treasure of Zamboanguenos," said Fr. Arthur Winikoff, founder and director of the St Francis House—an orphanage established in Zamboanga City by the Our Blessed Mother of Victory Mission Foundation Inc.

Winikoff, 62, said he has produced a series of Chavacano radio drama on DXKZ 91.5 FM with the help of local radio drama artists as his contribution to preserve the Spanish-based creole language, which some people fear is fast becoming extinct.

The Chavacano radio drama can be heard every Saturday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. during the public affairs program "El Isyu Ahora."

The production of Chavacano radio dramas stopped in Zamboanga City over a decade ago when local radio stations started to play Visayan radio dramas mostly coming from Cebu City.

Winikoff cited three reasons why he wants to revive Chavacano radio drama. These are to: 1) preserve Chavacano language; 2) teach radio listeners about the lives of good people and enhance their faith to God; and 3) provide entertainment.

Asked how much he spent for the production of the radio drama, Winikoff said "a substantial amount but what is more important are the intentions."

Winikoff first arrived in Zamboanga City in 1987 to establish the St Francis House orphanage where he placed and took care of the rounded up street children.

Police apprehend 'colorum' vehicles

THE Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) traffic division apprehended seven public utility jeepneys (PUJs) when it launched Friday a campaign against "colorum" PUJs in Zamboanga City.

ZCPO Director Edwin de Ocampo said the PUJs were apprehended for operating without franchise and other violations.

Of the seven PUJs apprehended, three are plying the Rio Hondo village, three to Sta. Catalina village, and one to Ayala, located in the city's west coast.

Six of the seven PUJs were found to have no franchise, while the other one was caught having no panel route and official receipt and certificate of registration, said De Ocampo.

The police official said the licenses of the drivers were confiscated while the vehicles were impounded at the ZCPO headquarters.

Corresponding charges will be filed against them for violation of the traffic code, he added.

Meanwhile, the City Government, in coordination with the police, is set to launch a campaign against "colorum" tricycles. The Tricycle Adjudication Board earlier found out that of the 7,144 units of tricycles plying in Zamboanga City, only 4,604 have complied with the requirements provided for in City Ordinance 185, otherwise known as "An Ordinance prescribing the operation of Tricycles and Granting Franchise for the Operation Thereof within the Territorial Jurisdiction of the City of Zamboanga."

The remaining 2,540 units of tricycles are either no longer operational or are running without franchises. (Bong Garcia)

Transport groups in Zambo city bewail unjust oil price hikes

ZAMBOANGA CITY, May 2 (PIA) – The Federation of Land Transportation Association in Zamboanga (FELTRANZ) and Responsible Union of Empowered Drivers Association (RUEDA) aired their sentiments against the continuous oil price increase, opposite the observance of the Labor Day yesterday.

The transport groups teamed up with AKBAYAN Party list in conducting a protest caravan and blocked several gasoline stations in the city for the alleged unjust oil price hikes implemented by the “Big Three” which are Shell, Caltex and Petron.

According to them, the “big three” worsen the already lowly plight of the workers, driven by their greed.

Although they understand that the unstable situation in the Gulf area directly affects the volatile price of oil products, they said the series of oil price hikes implemented by the big oil players are unjust and that they are exploiting the situation in the Middle East to get more profit.

The protesters said their families are feeling the brunt of these increases as they experience hunger.

FELTRANZ President and AKBAYAN-Zamboanga City Division Vice President Eduardo Mingala said local drivers and operators also experience price manipulation by local gasoline station owners.

He called on the City Council to investigate the said issue and urged them to implement sanctions against violators.

The group also called on for the abolition of the Oil Deregulation Law.

“We are calling on President Aquino to scrap the Oil Deregulation Law”, Hermogenes Awid, President of RUEDA, said.

Awid pointed that RA 8479 or the Oil Deregulation Law serves as a window of opportunity for oil cartel to implement unreasonable price hikes. (JPA/MVC PIA9-Zambo City)
