Zamboanga City - Archived News

Wars of ancient history were about possessions, territory, power, control, family, betrayal, lover's quarrel, politics and sometimes religion.

But we are in the Modern era and supposedly more educated and enlightened .

Think about this. Don't just brush off these questions.

  • Why is RELIGION still involved in WARS? Isn't religion supposed to be about PEACE?
  • Ask yourself; What religion always campaign to have its religious laws be accepted as government laws, always involved in wars and consistently causing WARS, yet insists that it's a religion of peace?

WHY??

There are only two kinds of people who teach tolerance:
  1. The Bullies. They want you to tolerate them so they can continue to maliciously deprive you. Do not believe these bullies teaching tolerance, saying that it’s the path to prevent hatred and prejudice.
  2. The victims who are waiting for the right moment to retaliate. They can’t win yet, so they tolerate.

Zamcelco starts 1-hour rotational blackout

The Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco) revealed that they are now implementing the 1-hour rotational blackout due to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) load curtailment of at least 100 Megawatts from April 18 to April 24.

The load curtailment was implemented because the NGCP scheduled a total plant shutdown of Pulangi 4 Hydro Electrical Plant to facilitate the dewatering of the channel and its urgent inspection for possible cracks along the channel.

Zamcelco General Manager Reinerio Ramos said, “we are going to implement a 1-hour rotational blackout on every feeder starting today until April 24.

He added, “the management is apologizing to the consumers but the problem arises from the source of power.”

The load curtailment will mean a 1-hour Blackout everyday on the 24 feeders of Zamcelco.

According to Ramos, the city is consuming some 25 Megawatts of electricity everyday depending on the peak and off peak hours.

Zamcelco is now serving 100,000 member consumers in Zamboanga City.

Zambo authorities score anew against illegal recruitment

ZAMBOANGA CITY, April 6, 2011 (PNA) – Authorities have scored anew in its campaign against illegal recruitment after policemen have arrested two alleged illegal recruiters and rescued seven victims in this city on Monday.

Senior Supt. Edwin de Ocampo, Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) director, the suspects were separately arrested together with their respective victims Monday evening.

De Ocampo said the arrest was made after the Visayan Forum Foundation (VFF) called up the ZCPO's Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) and reported they intercepted three victims of illegal recruitment as well as the alleged recruiter.

The VFF, which was Established in 1991, is an independent, non-profit organization working nationwide for the welfare of marginalized migrants, especially domestic workers and victims of human trafficking.

Intercepted by the VFF around 7 p.m. Monday at the Zamboanga port were Sayma Acdalin, 17, and Baihani Amilon, 16, both of Pikit, North Cotabato; and Janet Prayco, 20, of Roxas City.

Also nabbed was Narsheline Omar, who allegedly facilitated and assisted the victims to purchase tickets from this city to Sandakan in Sabah, Malaysia.

De Ocampo said the combined VFF and WCPD personnel rushed to the Zamboanga International Airport (ZIA) following information that another four recruited women are about to arrived in this city by commercial plane.

Rescued at the ZIA were Lianda Zacaria, 31, of Datu Paglas, Maguindanao; Norma Aliman, 30, from Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao; Liza Martizano, 26, of Bislig, Surigao del Sur; and Amera Salipada, 28, from Kabuntalan, Maguindanao.

Arrested was Racma Said of Barangay Canelar, this city, who fetched the victims at the ZIA to assist them in going to Malaysia.

De Ocampo said the victims were turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) while the two suspected illegal recruiters were detained and appropriate charges are readied against them.

Last Monday's arrest of alleged illegal recruiters and rescue of the seven victims came 11 days after an inter-agency task force has rescued 82 women (not 80 as earlier reported) at ZIA in what is believed as a large scale human trafficking.

They were to be transported by a charter plane hired by a Manila-based recruitment firm from this city to Malaysia. (PNA)
