DAVAO CITY June 13 (PIA)- At first it was a solemn 120th Independence Day commemoration here, just like the other independence day rites that preceded it.

The traditional flag-raising rites was attended by City Mayor Sara Duterte and Guest-of-Honor Major General Noel Clement, commander of the Philippine Army 10th Infantry Division.

It was followed by the 21-gun salute and the presentation of the wreath at the Rizal Monument.

City Mayor Sara Duterte delivered a short welcome address. “The contribution of Davao City to nation-building is to make this city peaceful and progressive.” Said the Mayor.

During the intermission, independence day ceremony host Romy Torres called on Filipino-American singer Jessica Reynoso who was part of the Voice of the Philippines Season 1. The singer who hails from Laguna and is part of the Black-Eyed Peas new single “Ring The Alarm”, sang her rendition of Alicia Keys “If I Aint Got You” and followed It up with an a capella of “Dahil sa Yo.”
