MAKATI CITY, Oct. 1 (PIA) -- The local government is set to launch its own mascot to help spread the message of responsible pet ownership in line with the city's observance of World Animal Day on October 2. | |||
The launching will take place on Sunday, at the Ayala Triangle Park, according to Makati Mayor [[Jejomar Erwin Binay, Jr.|Jejomar Erwin S. Binay]]. | |||
Binay, a strong advocate of the worldwide movement for animal welfare and rabies control, is also inviting the public to join the celebration with its theme, “Bantay: Home at Last!” | |||
“We encourage everyone, most especially pet lovers and pet owners, to participate in the exciting activities we have lined up for this Sunday’s event. Let us show the world that Filipinos are compassionate people who know how to treat animals right.... through responsible pet ownership,” Binay said. | |||
The mayor said the mascot “Bantay” is envisioned to serve as an ambassador for animals and a society free from diseases originating from animals. | |||
The mayor also thanked the city’s partners in organizing the event, namely, New Marketlink, Pfizer, Granny Goose-Tortillos, Virtusio, Nestle Philippines, Pet Food Institute, and Philippine Society for Wildlife Research and Conservation. (RJB/JCP-PIA NCR) | |||
