RCDA gears up for Disability Prevention Week 2016

ZAMBOANGA CITY (PIA) – The Regional Council for Disability Affairs (RCDA) has lined up several activities to commemorate the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week to be held on July 17-23.

According to Teddy Kahil, Persons with Disability (PWD) Federation President, the activities aim to raise public awareness on issues confronting the PWDs in the nation, and more importantly, to promote their rights.

“The RCDA has been meeting to finalize the plans for this year’s celebration, and as much as possible, we want the public to know about PWD rights, and how they can help promote these rights,” Kahil said.

The activities include information-dissemination through the media, a motorcade in the city proper, opening program to be held on Monday (July 18), disaster resilience trainings for PWDs, contests for children with special needs, jobs matching, livelihood trainings and others.

“One of our highlights include the recognition of local business establishments in Zamboanga City that have contributed to the welfare of the PWDs by making them part of the work force,” Kahil added.

This year’s theme is “Karapatan ng May Kapansanan, Isakatuparan… Now Na!”
