Quirino Tourism Council conducts roadside tree planting

CABARROGUIS, Quirino, Nov. 21 (PIA)--Around 300 fire tree seedlings were planted recently by the Provincial Tourism Council (PTC) headed by former congresswoman Maria Angela Cua from San Marcos of this municipality to Gamiz, Saguday. Provincial tourism officer Aurea V. Martinez said the roadside tree line plantation is one of the identified programs and projects in the Provincial Tourism Master Plan that was crafted during the term of then governor, now Congressman Dax Cua. The fire tree specie has been considered because its colorful orange flower will contribute to the roadside beautification of the national highway from Diffun to Nagtipunan added Martinez. The tree planting activity is also a contribution of the PTC to the national greening program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Cong Dax Cua and his wife, Midy Cua, Gov Junie, PTC and RTC chair Ma. Angela Cua and the members of the PTC joined the activity which was participated also by the Provincial Natural Resources Office (PNREO), Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of Education (DepEd), DENR, CENRO Diffun, Assessor’s Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, provincial warden’s office and the Quirino Polytechnic College. Meantime, Gil Francia of the DENR said that another tree planting activity is scheduled on December 2, 2012 where the PTC targets to plant a total of 2,222 fire tree from San Antonio to Cajel in Diffun town. Org’n of development advocates, livelihood associates formed in Quirino

CABARROGUIS, Quirino, Nov. 16 (PIA) -- Some beneficiaries and benefactors of the Quirino Livelihood for Everyone (Q-Life) recently formed an organization with the mission to complement the Q-LiFE programs through the operation of a poultry dressing plant, processing, packaging, marketing and distribution business. Dante B. Tobias, elected president of the group known as the Development Advocates of Quirino and Livelihood Associates (DAQuiLA) said that the organization aims to uplift the living condition of the members in accordance with the conditions of the national development plans. Tobias said the group shall enhance and defend the interest of its members for their mutual aid and protection by designing and undertaking activities for the benefit and welfare of its members and the organization, including housing, building and other projects not contrary to law. To further promote their development advocacies, they will coordinate and collaborate with government agencies and other rural workers organization for lawful undertakings. Joining Tobias in the roster of officers are: Louie P. de Vera, Vice President; Ditchie L. Gumih-o, secretary; Marvie E. Agustin, treasurer; Imelda Farinas, auditor; Rey Simodio, Public Relations officer; Alejandre Tobias, business manager and Rodel Urbano, conciliator. The following were also elected as chairman of the different committees: Rodelio D. Diego, committee on membership and education; Anthony A. Paragoso, committee on finance and development; Rufino Dolojan, committee on audit and inventory and Eulogio Santiago, committee on elections. The board of directors are Dante Tobias, Anthony Paragoso, Reynaldo Somera, Dennis Maeng, Louie de Vera, Clemente Salvador, Jr. and Ben Guillermo. (TCB, PIA 2)

Red Cross-2 invites runners for Million Volunteer Run

CABARROGUIS, Quirino, November 11 (PIA) -- Gov. Junie E. Cua urged all volunteers to register and join the Million Volunteer Run (MVR) of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) to be held all over the country on December 4, 2011. Speaking at the regional launching here, Cua said the MVR aims to heighten awareness on disaster risk reduction and decrease the vulnerability of the community to disasters. “We aim to build an army of 44 Red Cross humanitarian soldiers in every barangay (1 leader and 43 members) who will be trained to respond to disasters, donate blood and alleviate human suffering,” Cua said. Cua said thousands of runners have already committed to join the MVR and the funds that will be generated from their registration fees will be used for the Red Cross 143 Volunteers Training Program on disaster management. In Quirino, a total of 1,000 runners have already committed with a registration of P350 each. They will be given an echo bag, race bib, whistle, ID and t-shirt. The provinces of Isabela, Cagayan and Nueva Vizcaya and the city of Santiago have also committed 1,000 runners each and 500 from Ifugao province. Cua announced that registration is until November 30, 2011 and registrants are advised to visit their Red Cross chapter offices. Volunteer can register as runners or they may sponsor one or more runners. Individual, office or group sponsorship is also accepted. Meantime PRC governor Dakila Carlo ‘Dax’ E. Cua said the run aims to break all records and put the Philippines in the record as Volunteer Capital of the world. The regional launching which was held in time with the 33rd birthday celebration of PRC governor Dax was attended by Board of Governors member and Santiago city board chairman Amelita Navarro; Cong. Randolf S. Ting, Cagayan chapter board chairman; board chairmen Corazon Barrientos (Isabela), Santiago Dickson (Nueva Vizcaya), Carmelita Buyuccan (Ifugao) and Junie E. Cua (Quirino). (TCB/PIA 2)

Red Cross Region 2 chapter launches Million Volunteer Run

CABARROGUIS, Quirino, November 4 (PIA) -- The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Cagayan Valley chapter is taking another milestone with the regional launching of the Million Volunteer Run in this province today, in time with the birthday of Congressman Dakila Carlo E. Cua. PRC Quirino Chapter administrator Jesusa Leal said the different provincial chapters namely, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Cagayan, Santiago City with Ifugao will be joining the regional launching this morning and the orientation meeting to be held at 1:00 this afternoon at the Cua residence at Baro a Lubong, Mangandingay, this municipality. “This is part of our preparation for the Million Volunteer Run on December 4 which will be held simultaneously in the entire country to mark the International Volunteer Day on December 5,” Leal said. Leal added that the Million Volunteer Run will work in conjunction with “143 Red Cross,” a volunteer flagship program where the PRC trains 44 people in every barangay, one leader and 43 members, as disaster responders and providers of basic assistance such as first aid and psychological support. The chapter administrator likewise urged all volunteers to join the activity stressing that the PRC is an organization whose operation depends on its volunteers. (TCB/PIA 2)
