CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu provincial government is set to release P49 million to distribute to local government units that have already implemented the Farmer-Scientist Training Program (FSTP).
This was announced by Governor Hilario Davide III during the Farmer’s Day celebration yesterday at the Social Hall of the Cebu Provincial Capitol.
Based on the records of the Provincial Agriculturist Office, 49 local government units have implemented the FSTP, which is a program that provides training to farmers to equip them with the knowledge on “sustainable” agriculture.
All LGUs in Cebu, except the cities of Talisay, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu and Cordova town, will receive P1 million. The three cities and one municipality have not implemented the FSTP yet.
The aid is in line with Executive Order No. 710 of 2008 which is a nationwide adoption of the corn-based farmer-scientists research training program to help the poor farmers.
In addition, Department of Agriculture-7 director Angel Enriquez also announced plans to expand the coverage of the Agri-Fishery Insurance Program, to cover not only crops but also livelihood animals. Freeman ( Article MRec ), pagematch: 1, sectionmatch:
