ANGELES CITY --- A village chief in this city has underscored the need to provide quality education for the youth.

Rodelio “Tony” Mamac, chairman of Barangay Balibago, said this during the distribution of scholarship certificates to more than 500 high school students yesterday.

“The scholarship program will prove that poverty is not a reason for aspiring youths not to fulfill their dream for as long as they have matitino, matatalino, at mahuhusay na mga namumuno ng pamahalaan (straight, intelligent and capable government leaders),” Mamac said.

Parents and guardians of scholars attended the distribution of the certificates.

Mamac said the program, dubbed Barangay Balibago Scholarship Assistance Program, was launched in 2009.

“We already produced engineers, teachers, social workers, and this coming April, some 22 barangay scholars will graduate from college hopefully all with honors,” the village chief said.

Mamac’s wife Tess, councilors Haron Tecson, Ando Yambao, and Bong Reyes, Mancom Head Nards Nicdao, Youth Leader AJ Agudo and other school and barangay officials attended the ceremony.
