STA. BARBARA, Pangasinan, Nov. 12 (PNA) -- At least 183 shallow tube wells will be put up and 32 water impounding dams and their distribution lines will be rehabilitated across Pangasinan in preparation to mitigate the effects of El Niño which is expected to be felt until the first quarter of 2016.

This was bared by Gov. Amado Espino Jr. who said the provincial government is set to allocate PHP60 million for the projects and allow farmers to plant crops in their farms.

"We are committing PHP60 million in order to mitigate El Niño so that farmers can plant their fields and assure them and their families food and income," the governor said.

Pangasinan and nearby provinces are among the areas being threatened by El Niño.

Espino ordered Provincial Agriculturist Dalisay Moya to make a study and submit recommendations as to where the shallow tube wells will be put up starting January next year.
