Pagadian City holds simple Independence Day celebration

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, June 12 (PNA) -– The city and provincial governments jointly celebrated the 117th Independence Day in a simple but fitting ceremonies at the Rizal Park here.

Mayor Romeo Pulmones and Gov. Antonio Cerilles led the local and national government employees in the wreath-laying at the foot of Rizal monument that kick-off the Independence Day celebration in this city.

Among those who joined the celebration are Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre, provincial police director; Brig. Gen. Glen Macasero, representing the Army’s First Infantry Division; Civic Society Organizations; Non-Government Organizations; Knights of Rizal; and the Free and Accepted Masons.

“On this 117th anniversary of our independence, may we truly learn the values of our heroes and used them for the well-being of our nation in the context of this year’s theme,” Pulmones said.

This year’s Independence Day celebration is anchored on the theme “Kalayaan 2015: Tagumpay sa Pagbabagong Nasimulan, Abot Kamay na ng Bayan.”

“I hope and pray to God that we will have real independence, especially the independence from poverty and I hope that peace and stability will come not only in Zamboanga del Sur but in the entire country,” Cerilles said.
