CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, June 20 (PNA) – The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) successfully filled up the country’s surplus power consumption this year, the NGCP announced Tuesday.
In a statement, Mae Roselle L. Curiano, the regional communications officer, said that the country’s power consumption in May this year reached 10,054 megawatts, which the NGCP was able to supply.
The NGCP’s total power supply is only 11,444 megawatts, which left the power grid only a 1,390 megawatt “operating margin,” Curiano said.
She said that the operating margin was just enough to allow the flow of the current to continue without interference and avoid “low voltage” at “low frequency,” The consumers did not notice the sudden upsurge of the power consumption because the NGCP has instituted various changes in the substations to empower the operating measures of the transformers, Curiano said.
She said that the power changes actually took place in the substations in San Jose, Dasmariñas, Bolo, and the 500 kilovolts in Tayabas, all NGCP power grids in Luzon.
The NGCP’s Luzon System Operation was able to successfully maintain the normal system voltage level, which is normally applied at the height of the dry season.
