PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, July 8 (PNA) -– The National Food Authority (NFA)-Palawan conducted surprise market inspections in this city and four municipalities in the province to ensure no synthetic rice are sold to consumers.

NFA chief Edmundo Enrique said their move was simultaneously done since Monday in Puerto Princesa and the municipalities of Coron and Roxas in northern Palawan, and Brooke’s Point and Narra in the south.

He said it was part of the NFA’s resolve not to allow the entry of synthetic rice reportedly from China which can have an adverse effect on the health of the people.

While the simultaneous inspection did not yield any positive finding of fake rice, he said, the NFA-Palawan will remain its strict monitoring until such time it can already be sure that the problem has been resolved.

Enrique added they also made a visit to the management of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) to ensure stringent partnership against the entry of fake rice.

Rice consumers, he added, can help ensure that they are not buying fake rice by asking traders for receipts.

He said the receipts would help guarantee fast response from them in case synthetic rice supply is bought by consumers.
