MetroPac to supply bulk water to Oro

THE Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) and MetroPac Water Investments (MPW) Corporation on Tuesday, August 15, signed a joint venture agreement for the supply of bulk treated water to the city.

Last March 21, the MPW, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) was awarded the 100 million liters per day (MLD) Bulk Water Project after undergoing a comparative challenge as required by the 2013 Revised Joint Venture Guidelines of the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda).

The project has a term of 30 years, and renewable for another 20 years, and involves the supply of up to 100 MLD of treated bulk water, as well as construction of transmission lines and rehabilitation of the Camaman-an Reservoir to supply the COWD, which currently has about 90,000 service connections.

Ed Montalvan, chairman of the COWD board of directors, welcomed the deal, pointing out that this would supply the increasing demand of water in the city.

"This will be more than enough to supply the more than 90,000 service connections of the district and will allow us to face the challenges of a growing metropolis," he said, in a text message.

City Mayor Oscar Moreno led the team of City Government officials on Tuesday to witness the signing ceremony at Makati Shangri-la.

Aside from the construction of new water lines, the project will also facilitate the delivery of bulk treated water to serve the city's western side, which currently relies on deep wells for its water supply.
