Dietary supplement is a product that contains vitamins, minerals, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids, enzymes, and/or other ingredients intended to supplement the diet. Wars of ancient history were about possessions, territory, power, control, family, betrayal, lover's quarrel, politics and sometimes religion.

But we are in the Modern era and supposedly more educated and enlightened .

Think about this. Don't just brush off these questions.

  • Why is RELIGION still involved in WARS? Isn't religion supposed to be about PEACE?
  • Ask yourself; What religion always campaign to have its religious laws be accepted as government laws, always involved in wars and consistently causing WARS, yet insists that it's a religion of peace?

WHY??

There are only two kinds of people who teach tolerance:
  1. The Bullies. They want you to tolerate them so they can continue to maliciously deprive you. Do not believe these bullies teaching tolerance, saying that it’s the path to prevent hatred and prejudice.
  2. The victims who are waiting for the right moment to retaliate. They can’t win yet, so they tolerate.

Globe announces improved network in Makati City

By : sunstar.com.ph

GLOBE Telecom recently made headway with its network transformation program by upgrading its network in the country’s premier business city of Makati.

The initial stage of the network modernization involves the replacement of all cell sites with advanced telecommunications infrastructure. As of December, almost the entire city is now benefitting from “a better mobile experience, specifically in the Central Business District, where the most dynamic and vibrant activities in the City take place,” Globe said in a press statement. This is the immediate result of changing existing legacy network there and deploying of Cellmax high-gain antennas to further improve coverage.

The Globe network in Makati City is capable of widespread 3G and 4G-HSPA+ coverage, which encompasses exclusive villages, upscale condominiums, busy work locales with large-volume human traffic, high-rise buildings, major thoroughfares, indoor coverage in hotels and malls as well as key community infrastructures such as hospitals, parks, dining establishments and the like.

Stronger Globe signals can now be experienced in Forbes Park, Greenbelt, Rockwell, Barangays Palanan and Bangkal, Ayala Avenue, the stretch of Gil Puyat Avenue/Buendia, EDSA, South Superhighway, Arnaiz Avenue, Jupiter Street, Bel-Air. Salcedo Village, Pasong Tamo Extension, Dasmariñas Village, Salcedo Village, H. V. dela Costa Street, Valero Street and McKinley Road.

“A good expanse of these vicinities is already capable or primed for contiguous Long Term Evolution or LTE deployment, which can fire data speeds of up to 42 mbps,” the company said.

This development comes at the heels of the company’s network transformation in Cebu, Davao and other key areas of the archipelago earlier this year.

With the modernized network, Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu said that “the inconveniences of dropped calls, delayed messaging and slow data transmission are now things of the past.” (PR)

Parking spat triggers deadly stabbing in Makati

By : Noli A. Ermitanio

Philippine Daily Inquirer

MANILA, Philippines – A tricycle driver stabbed his neighbor, a taxi driver, over a parking spat last Sunday night. Monico Eres ended up stabbing his neighbor, Ferdinand Olipas, after the former angrily confronted the latter over a parking disagreement inside their compound at 4040 Kalayaan Barangay Singkamas, Makati City. According to a witness and a fellow neighbor, Mary Rose Rivera, she was seated inside a tricycle when Olipas, arriving with his taxi, saw Eres’ tricycles blocking his way. Olipas then burst angrily, spewing expletives and shouting at Eres to move away his tricycles. Eres responded by taking a kitchen knife and stabbing Olipas two times. The case investigator, Police Officer 3 Ronaldo Villaranda of the Makati Police Investigation section, said that Olipas’ sudden outburst and Eres’ reaction might have been caused by a longstanding problem over parking space. The victim was brought to the Ospital ng Makati Pembo for treatment, while the suspect was arrested by members of the Makati Police and the barangay tanod (neighborhood watch) and will be charged with attempted homicide.

By : Philippine News Agency

MANILA, Philippines - The Makati City Council recently approved the granting of P100,000 cash incentive to BLU Card holders who have turned 100 years old in 2012.

Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin S. Binay said this one-time cash benefit for resident-centenarians will serve as the city’s tribute to them for their significant contributions and role in the history and development of Makati. The city government has an initial appropriation of P2 million.

“We deeply cherish and value our senior citizens. We owe them so much for the progress and development that Makati has achieved thus far, and so we continue to think of ways to show our sincere gratitude and great respect for them,” Binay said.

Binay said that under the BLU Card program, senior citizens who have reached their 100th birthday within January 1 to December 31, 2012 will be able to avail themselves of the P100,000 cash incentive upon fully complying with the guidelines set by the Makati Social Welfare Department (MSWD).

The mayor also said those who reached the age of 100 within 2012 but died afterwards will also be entitled to the cash gift, which will be given to the qualified heirs.

Barcelo said to date, they have identified at least nine potential recipients of the centenary gift in the following barangays, one each in Comembo, Guadalupe Viejo, Olympia, Dasmariñas, Forbes Park, Kasilawan, and Bangkal, and two in San Lorenzo.

Also, every applicant should be able to submit the following: original copy of birth certificate/marriage certificate; BLU Card; and White Card.

Meanwhile, those between 60-69 years old will still get the regular P2,000, also given in two equal installments.

Other benefits given to the Makati elderly, on top of those prescribed by the national law, include mobility aids (e.g. walking sticks, quad canes, wheelchairs), exemption from color coding, free movies, birthday cakes delivered during their birthdays, free haircut and salon treatments, and free massage. By Jerome Carlo R. Paunan (ICRD/RJB/JCP-PIA NCR)

MAKATI CITY, Dec. 17 (PIA) -- With the help of “Ira” and “Drena,” a combined team of Makati Rescue and Philippine K9 Search and Rescue Foundation, personnel has so far retrieved the bodies of 28 victims of typhoon Pablo in New Bataan, Compostela Valley since Dec. 7.

Ira and Drena are both Belgian Malinois dogs raised and trained in France that were with a 10-man rescue team deployed by the city government of Makati and the office of the vice president.

As of Wednesday, Dec. 12, the Makati contingent had been able to retrieve 28 victims, including a pregnant woman, a female child, and two soldiers.

In a statement, Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin S. Binay said that Makati has invested in the acquisition and training of search and rescue dogs. “We are devastated by the tragedy and our dogs and the team will remain there as long as they are needed,” he said.

The mayor said the search and rescue dogs delivered results in actual operations, particularly in locating the bodies of victims hidden from sight.

He said that Makati will acquire more search dogs to be trained by Philippine K9 for deployment to disaster-stricken areas whenever needed.

Makati Rescue and Philippine K9 brought with them from Makati, in addition to Ira and Drena, two chainsaws, a vibrascope (to see victims trapped underneath debris and tree trunks), a vibraphone (to communicate with live victims trapped underneath), and a hydraulic cutter (hydraulic spreader) used in vehicular extrication.

Abaniel repeats as world champ

by Jerome Carlo R. Paunan

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines’ Gretchen Abaniel stopped Thailand’s Modthanoi Sithsaithong in the fourth round to win the Women’s International Boxing Association (WIBA) minimum weight world championship for a second time in front of a jampacked Makati Cinema Square crowd on Sunday.

The Puerto Princesa, Palawan native and now Makati City resident set the tempo of the bout as she stalked her smaller opponent around the ring.

In the fourth round, Abaniel landed a series of jarring rights that stunned the Thai, who after a series of blows, turned her back and was clearly in trouble.

Referee Sammy Bernabe saved Modthanai (5-2, 3KOs) from further punishment and waived off the bout at 1:36.

Thus began the jubilant celebrations in the ring as Abaniel hoisted the WIBA belt for the second time in her career.

Abaniel (12-4, 3 KOs), who was facing a make-or-break path in her career, held this very title back in 2009 and defended it once before losing the belt in Thailand via unanimous decision.

Going into Sunday’s battle, she had lost three out of her last four fights and knew she was staring at the end of her career if she didn’t come through this time.

“I’m so happy right now,” an elated Abaniel said afterward as she was mobbed by well-wishers. “I trained really hard for this fight because I know I can’t afford to lose again. I want to thank my manager Sir Jonathan (Thorp) of Team Insider for believing in me and for giving me this chance, and everyone who helped me and believed in me on my way back to being a champion.”

Abaniel’s victory headlined an entertaining first fight card put on by Team Insider Promotions, led by British businessman and long time Philippine resident Jonathan Thorp, who promised to rejuvenate the local boxing scene in the coming year with entertaining promotions the likes of which haven’t been seen before around Manila.

One of Thorp’s plans is to consistently bring in live opponents to test his fighters rather than patsies to pad their records. Indeed, this is exactly what occurred in the supporting main event when Team Insider’s best prospect Roman “Hitman” Canto lost to Indonesia’s Ruben Manakane.

Canto came into the bout sporting a 7-0 record and had the Indonesian in serious trouble in the second round. But the Filipino couldn’t put his rugged opponent away. In the fourth round, Canto got sloppy and threw a wild right leaving himself glaringly exposed, and got tagged with a vicious left hook to the chin. Canto immediately collapsed onto the canvas nearly unconscious as referee Ver Abainza waived off the bout, giving the stunning victory to Manakane.

In another undercard fight Team Insider’s Ricky Dulay, who barely missed out on a spot in this year’s London Olympics, continued to show fine form as he upped his record to 3-0 with a second-round stoppage of Gilbert Donasales.

Team Insider’s ‘Battle of Makati’ was sponsored by Megasportsworld, Tune Hotels, Team Insider Gym, Team Insider Sports Bar, Red Horse Beer, Etihad Airlines, Howzat Bar, Bay Café Manila, Savoy Bistro Makati, Rogues Bar Makati, Makati Square, Big Apple Dive Resort Puerto Galera, Mulligans Irish Gastro Pub, Twins Boxing Gear, and Monster Energy Drink.

Makati tops Nat'l Achievement Test in NCR

by Jerome Carlo R. Paunan

MAKATI CITY, Dec. 3 (PIA) -- Public elementary and high schools in Makati have bested public and private schools in the National Capital Region in the recent National Achievement Test (NAT) conducted by the Department of Education.

In a statement posted on the city's website (makati.gov.ph), DepEd-Makati officer-in-charge, Dr. Dominico Idanan said the city’s public schools ranked first in the NCR after garnering an overall average rating of 65.64 percent in the elementary level, and 53.52 percent in the high school level for five major subjects.

The NAT, administered yearly by the DepEd in schools in Metro Manila and throughout the country, was taken by all grade six and fourth year high school students in both public and private schools.

For his part, Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay congratulated the students who took the examination, saying he was doubly proud and happy to learn that the city has topped the NAT in both categories.

“These twin victories of the city’s education sector are the sweet fruits of the substantial investments and innovations we have made to modernize our public school system and make quality education accessible to the youth of Makati, regardless of economic status,” the mayor said.

He also thanked the teachers and school principals in Makati’s public schools for their “laudable dedication to the proper education of the youth of Makati.”

Idanan said that based on the results released by the National Education Training and Research Center (NETRC), the testing arm of DepEd, Makati students fared well in the three key subject areas. In the elementary level, the city got the highest rating in Science with 66.03 percent, followed by English and Mathematics with 65.75 and 61.43 percent, respectively. In the high school level, Makati students topped in Mathematics with 72.34 percent, followed by Science and English with 42.75 and 38.62 percent, respectively.

“We extend our warmest congratulations to our elementary and high school students for doing us proud. We are particularly elated that the elementary level has made an impressive comeback after it topped the NAT in school year 2006-2007 for the first time,” he said.

The DepEd official also lauded the public high schools of Makati for having consistently ranked first in NAT at the regional level for the last four years, specifically in school years 2008-2009, 2009-201, 2010-2011, and this school year 2011-2012. They also placed first in SY 2005-2006, and second in SY 2007-2008 and 2004-2005.

Makati public elementary schools ranked fourth in NAT last year among schools in the NCR, while placing sixth in SY 2009-2010 and SY 2007-2008; and second in SY 2008-2009.

The National Achievement Test is an examination given annually for both private and public elementary and secondary schools nationwide. It seeks to assess the competencies learned by the students in subjects such as English, Filipino, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies and the results of the test are intended to guide DepEd in its efforts toward the improvement of the quality of education and to provide appropriate intervention for the students. Makati cops nab unruly French man

by Mike Frialde

MANILA, Philippines - Police arrested a French man after he allegedly created trouble outside a bar in Makati City and kicked a policeman who tried to pacify him Friday night.

Police Officer 1 June Cabrera of the city’s tourist police unit said he was patrolling Burgos street at 11:15 p.m. when Joey Baladuya of Barangay Poblacion sought his help.

Baladuya informed Cabrera that a foreigner identified as Marcel Albaracin, 60, was creating a scene outside the Argos bar.

Cabrera and Baladuya then proceeded to the bar.

The policeman introduced himself as a police officer and tried to pacify the French man. Cabrera even offered to take Albaracin home.

But according to Makati police chief Senior Superintendent Manuel Lukban, the foreigner gave Cabrera the “dirty finger” and kicked him.

A complaint for direct assault has been filed against Albaracin, who was detained at the Makati police station.

Lukban said they notified the French embassy of Albaracin’s arrest.

MMDA fires three “kotong” enforcers

by Lucia F. Broño

MAKATI CITY, Dec. 1 (PIA) -- For alleged “kotong” practices, three Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic constables are now facing summary dismissal.

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino yesterday ordered the immediate relief of three personnel from the agency's Traffic Discipline Office (TDO) for alleged involvement in corrupt practices.

Traffic Constables Berganio, Abdul, and Romero (first names withheld) were caught by a Metrobase roving staff committing extortion at the Magallanes u-turn slot in Makati at 3:00 a.m. last Thursday.

It was found out upon verification that they were not on official duty and Magallanes was not their area of responsibility.

Berganio's shift is from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. and assigned at EDSA segment 4, while Abdul and Romero are both from the anti-jaywalking unit belonging to the 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. shift.

The three enforcers were the same persons spotted by traffic constable Tristan Neneria on November 14 allegedly receiving bribes from two truck drivers at the same area.

"We will not tolerate this wrongdoing among our ranks," Tolentino said. "Let this serve as a warning to all our erring employees," he added.

According to the MMDA chief, appropriate criminal charges will be filed subsequently against Berganio, Abdul, and Romero to give them the right to defend themselves.

In one interview, Tolentino advises the public to look for the mission order and the area of assignment of the traffic enforcers once apprehended to prevent further corruption.

Meanwhile, the chairman recently signed a termination order for four TDO personnel found to have committed grave misconduct.

Two more traffic constables were also suspended for eight months and one day, also for grave misconduct.

On the other hand, Tolentino ordered additional incentives and appropriate commendations to those performing beyond the call of duty. (RJB/LFB/PIA-NCR)
