CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – City government and academe partner for Boar Stud Artificial Insemination Project in Cagayan de Oro.

THE 18th City Council during its 44th Regular Session presided over by Raineir Joaquin V. Uy enacted an ordinance authorizing the city mayor to enter into and sign the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan, covering the implementation of the Boar Stud Artificial Insemination Project under the Bottom-Up Budgeting (BUB) Project for 2015.

Under the MOA, the city government shall provide quality breeding boars, feeds, medicines and vaccines, laboratory equipment, and other consumables. It shall also provide facility assistance for the improvement of boar-stud pens, monitor regularly the installation/trial run/testing and evaluation of the facilities. It shall provide funds for the initial 1,500 doses of semen for distribution to participating farmers.

The city shall, likewise, allow XU to charge artificial insemination service fee after the first doses, coordinate with the communities in promoting the program, conduct training, and ensure the participation of farmer-beneficiaries in related orientation and training activities, among others.

For its part, Xavier University shall provide land and building for the facility, acknowledge receipt of the facilities and be responsible for its operation and maintenance. It shall also provide 1,500 doses of semen to hog farmers for a minimal cost after the free of charge 1,500 doses run out.

XU shall also provide resource persons for the training of farmer-beneficiaries, and ensure detailed documentation of the project operations, among others.

The legislation was endorsed by the committees on agriculture and fisheries and on laws and rules chaired by Councilors Annie Y. Daba and Ian Mark Q. Nacaya, respectively.
