LRT study in Cebu ongoing

CEBU, Philippines - Presidential assistant for the Visayas Michael Lloyd Dino said that Singaporean experts have been studying the construction of Cebu’s LRT for the past two weeks now and are expected to finish by mid-October to November of this year.

Dino said in a press conference that the LRT is seen to stretch from Carcar City to Danao City and will link to the Mactan Cebu International Airport.

The estimated cost of the LRT is $30 million per kilometer (for elevated areas) but this will be done through Private-Public-Partnership.

“Of course we expect that the Cebu LRT will be realized g’yud under the Duterte administration,” Dino said.

Dino earlier said that a mass transport system is badly needed for Cebu due to traffic.

Besides, Dino said a mass transport system would make travel faster and will spur business and economic development in the countryside. Road widening is not enough, thus a mass transport system is necessary.

He further said that the Bus Rapid Transit will push through but it could be there will be some changes to some routes.

“We will just leave the study to the Singaporean experts. Let the experts do the thinking,” Dino added.
