THE sixth Philippine International Literary Festival (PILF) will be held for the first time outside Metro Manila, as organizers announced on Tuesday that it be held on November 20-21 at the Abreeza Ayala Mall, Davao City.

Acting Director of the National Book Development Board (NBDB) Attorney RhiaAladin said that this move was done to address Manila centrism as there are also a number of aspiring artists outside the metro.

"We chose Davao to encourage its publishing community as there are a lot of literary works worthy to be published but the authors do not have the channel to make it happen," she added.

Formerly called as the Manila International Literary Festival, it was changed into a more general term in 2012 to gather and attract more participants.

It is a landmark project of the NBDB which aims to celebrate literature and promote best publishing practices through discourse on the issues of authorship and readership which shapes the local book industry.

The two-day event themed as Lalang: Writing in Place. Creating Your Place will provide a venue for intimate discussions with the participants' literary idols.

Lalang means 'likha' (creation) in five different Filipino languages.

The event will tackle on the relevance of a place in the creation and appreciation of literature as well as whether the writer has enough influence to the place.

The registration per day will be 300 for professionals; for students and faculty members, they will be offering for a lesser amount which is 100 per day.

It also comes with a festival kit which the attendees will surely appreciate.
