ILOILO CITY -- Ilonggos will celebrate the 118th anniversary of Philippine Independence Day through job fairs that give hope for a better life.
The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) Western Visayas will hold a job fair on Sunday, June 12, at the Mary Mart Mall for more than 8,000 participants.
Pre-registration is currently ongoing at the Dole regional office. An estimated 2,700 job vacancies are available for local employment and 5,500 for overseas employment.
Available slots are for the service sector such as workers in hotels and restaurants, business process outsourcing and skilled workers such as carpentry, fitters and others especially for abroad construction posting.
On the other hand, the Iloilo City Government through the local Peso office and radio station RMN 774 will conduct a joint job fair on June 10 at the 3rd Floor, cafeteria area of City Hall.
Special projects coordinator Rhod Tecson of RMN 774 said the job fair will be participated by 60 companies recruiting for local and overseas posting. Some 1,000 applicants are expected to participate for local and overseas jobs.
Tecson said that Ilonggo skilled workers are currently in demand abroad for construction projects, hotels and restaurants and other jobs.
Business process outsourcing companies are also looking for local agents while demands in the local tourism and service sector are steadily increasing.
