LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Nov. 29 (PNA) -- Motorists have called on the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to build a detour bridge along the national highway where traffic to and from Binmaley town proper will be re-directed.
This is to prevent stand-still traffic along the national highway while the Curambeng bridge in Barangay Manat is undergoing widening, a project which might take several months to complete.
Motorists decried stand-still traffic along the national highway to and from Binmaley town last Saturday and Sunday when the contractor that won the bidding for the bridge widening project initially mobilized its heavy equipment to finally begin the project.
This necessitated the closure of the Curambeng bridge and when this happened, vehicles to and from Binmaley town proper were re-routed to a narrow circuitous road in barangay Linoc connected to Barangay Canaoalan then Biec, Binmaley and back to the national highway.
The Curambeng bridge was reopened again Monday, restoring the normal flow of transportation to and from Binmaley town proper.
Alarmed by the stand-still traffic for hours on weekend, officials of Binmaley town reportedly asked the DPWH to put off in the meanwhile the widening of the Curambeng bridge till the contractor builds a detour bridge in order not to close the vital road from Dagupan to Lingayen via Binmaley.
