DOLE releases 4-M livelihood assistance to LGUs

PAGADIAN CITY, June 24 (PIA) – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Office distributed on Thursday livelihood assistance checks worth more than P4 million to local government units (LGUs) and an entrepreneur in the city during the job and livelihood fair at City Commercial Center (C3) here.

DOLE-9 Regional Director Sisinio Cano said activity is an intervention of the agency in the observance of Kalayaan 2015 and the 46th Founding Anniversary of the city, respectively.

The checks were personally distributed by Director Cano to the six LGU-recipients, namely, Ramon Magsaysay for Kabuhayan Starter Kits worth P2,4000; Lakewood - Kabuhayan Starter Kits worth P500,000; Mahayag -Dressmaking worth P500,000; Aurora-Kabuhayan Starter Kits worth P304,200; Kumalarang - Kabuhayan Starter Kits worth P205,000; and Canillo Blacksmith Shop – P9,000.

Kabuhayan Starter Kits consists of package of services that will provide beneficiaries - the informal sector workers and their families - booth skills training and the necessary tools to enable them quickly start livelihood activities and become self-employed.

Cano was assisted by Pagadian City Mayor Romeo Pulmones and DOLE –Zamboanga del Sur chief Camilo Encila Jr. in the distribution of said kits.

Cano expressed optimism that with the government’s livelihood assistance, the beneficiaries would improve their living condition and at the same time, hone their skills.

Cano said the DOLE has provided two job search kiosks for Zamboanga del Sur, one for Pagadian which was already turned-over during the event, and the other one for the municipality of Dumingag.

The job search kiosk is online jobs database where job applicants can easily search for jobs.

“With the job search kiosk, anytime of the day, the job seekers can register and browse available jobs online,” Cano explained.

Cano said “as a joint project between DOLE and the LGUs, the latter will provide internet connection to make the kiosk operational.
