The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-MIMAROPA held the Palawan Tripartite Industrial Peace and Council (PTIPC) Congress at the Sunlight Guest Hotel in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, from November 3 to 4. The activity is spearheaded by DOLE officials, together with several of the government’s line agencies, to discuss several employment and labor concerns in the province.
The first part of the event focused on discussing two Department Orders (DO), namely Department Order No. 18-A series of 2011 (DO 18-A) and Department Order No. 150 series of 2016 (DO 150-16). The first strengthens the rights of contractual employees and imposes obligations on contractors, while the second one mainly focuses on the new guidelines on working conditions of security guards and personnel in the private security industry. Philip Alano of DOLE-MIMAROPA led the discussion on such topics.
An overview of the PTIPC Congress was then discussed by Miriam Miravite, Supervising CEO, Regional Tripartite Wages and Production Board (RTWPB)-MIMAROPA, where topics on productivity, global competition and a number of programs and training that the PTIPC conducted were discussed.
Illegal drug use in the workplace was also discussed in the event, led by Grace Llano of PDEA Palawan, along with other related topics. Llano primarily discussed the effect of drug use. She also congratulated three establishments in Palawan that have passed the guidelines on having a drug-free workplace, namely RTN, CBNC and PALECO. Additionally, Llano encouraged establishments in Palawan to join the advocacy campaign “This is a drug Free Workplace: Let’s keep it this way” and to take surprise drug-testing among their workforce.
Lastly, the second half of the event tackled different development programs of the government, namely on family welfare and employee compensation and commission. TESDA programs and services and JOBSTART were also included in the discussion.
