THE Cebu Literary Festival will hold two workshops on Saturday, Aug. 27, at the East West Café, Cebu IT Park--a Citizen Journalism workshop with Isolde Amante from 1-5 p.m., and an Introduction to Spoken Word from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Fiction writers are luckier than news writers, if they use their imagination well. The news writer writes within much tighter confines; they must get as close as possible to the measureable truth, and keep their more strident opinions in check.
In the course of one afternoon, Amante, who is the current editor-in-chief of Sun.Star Cebu, will guide participants through a practical workshop on citizen journalism–telling true stories and writing your own news story.
The workshop will also talk about narrative news and literary journalism, the process from first draft to revision and will end with tips on getting published.
The second workshop, Introduction to Spoken Word, aims to develop more spoken word performers in Cebu and is open to all those interested in Bisaya, Tagalog or English spoken word poetry, whatever their level of experience or style of writing and performance.
Once the workshop is over, participants will be given the chance to take part in the Open Mic Mentorship Program, to meet and share ideas with leading writers and performers, and have their works published.
These activities lead into the main Cebu Literary Festival scheduled on Nov. 26, 2016 at the Ayala Activity Center.
