Bolinao Tigasin Triathlon rolls off today

Bolinao, Pangasinan: The 2nd edition of Tigasin Triathlon titled Ang Tagisan ng mga Tigasin will roll off today at the El Pescador Resort and Hotel in Bolinao, Pangasinan.

“This edition of Tigasin Triathlon is exciting since we have a new venue and at the same time, this is the biggest number of participants in any TriSports events,” TriSports marketing communication head Carlo Sampan told The Manila Times.

Sampan said close to 300 participants would join the Sprint (32.5-kilometer) and Standard (51.5-km) categories led by elite riders Monica Torres and Elsie Langit.

The Sprint will have 750m-20km-5km swim-bike-run while the Standard features 1.5km-40km-10km race.

Tigasin Triathlon is the first local triathlon event to be held in Bolinao. It aims not only to promote multisport awareness in the province but also to showcase the beauty of Pangasinan.

“We are delighted because what happened here is we tap the local communities to help us stage this event. It somehow creates sports and wellness campaign among them,” said Sampan.

Tigasin Triathlon was envisioned to be at par with international triathlons. With its launch last year, Pangasinan proved to be an elite level racecourse that only “tigasin” or tough athletes could conquer.

The racecourse, according to organizers, will past through rolling hills and plains that stretch along Bolinao and Anda, Pangasinan.

Last year, the launch of the Tigasin Triathlon was affected by inclement weather that resulted in the cancellation of the open water swim segment. In this year’s race, the organizers chose the Guiguiwanen beach for the open water swim phase, which is the best that Pangasinan could offer.
