Dietary supplement is a product that contains vitamins, minerals, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids, enzymes, and/or other ingredients intended to supplement the diet. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has special labeling requirements for dietary supplements and treats them as foods, not drugs.

Manufacturers and distributors of dietary supplements and dietary ingredients are prohibited from marketing products that are adulterated or misbranded. That means that these firms are responsible for evaluating the safety and labeling of their products before marketing to ensure that they meet all the requirements of DSHEA and FDA regulations.

Bike Tune-Up Tips

To do some basic tune-up a cyclist might consider having the following tools:

  • Allen wrenches (2-8mm) - An Allen wrench, Allen key, hex key or hex head wrench is a bicycle tool used to drive screws and bolts with a hexagonal socket in the head.
  • Chain tool - A chain tool is a small mechanical device used to "break" a bicycle chain in such a way that it could be mended with the same tool.
  • Cone wrenches - A Cone Wrench is a thinner than standard open ended wrench designed to fit the narrow gripping surface on the bearing cones of a bicycle wheel hub. Typically, the wrench will be in a "dogbone" shape, with a different size opening on each end.
  • Screwdrivers (Phillips and flathead)
  • Open and/or box wrenches (8, 9, 10, and 15mm)
  • Spoke wrench - A spoke wrench is a small wrench used to loosen or tighten the tension in a spoke.
    Common sizes include:
    • .127" (3.23 mm)
    • .130" (3.30 mm)
    • .136" (3.45 mm)
  • Tire levers - A Tire lever is a tool for removing tires from bicycle rims.
  • Pump - A bicycle pump is specifically designed for inflating bicycle tires.
