ANGELES CITY (PIA) -- Angeles City lighted up last Tuesday (August 8) its ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Lantern at the Bayanihan Park, joining over 70 other local government units (LGUs) around the country.
It was in line with the 50th anniversary celebration of the organization.
Popularly known as the “Salakot”, Bayanihan Park was chosen for the ceremony to remind the people that Clark, which used to be an American military base, is now part of Philippine territory.
In his speech, Mayor Edgardo Paminutan said that before ASEAN can engage the world, there should first be a common understanding among Filipinos of the importance of ASEAN and the landmark lighting is great way to inform its significance.
“Being in consensus would lead to success and in achieving unity of nations. With the ASEAN Integration, there would be easy flow of goods, trade, and services. There would be no more barriers in achieving a successful community,” Pamintuan added.
Five other LGUs in Central Luzon participated in the activity namely Baler in Aurora; Science City of Munoz in Nueva Ecija; City of San Fernando in Pampanga; Mayantoc in Tarlac; and Iba in Zambales.
