Ambulance driver killed in Zamboanga Norte town accident

ONE person died while two others were injured in an accident along a highway in Sergio Osmeña, Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Saturday.

The Zamboanga del Norte Police Provincial Office said the collision between an ambulance and a container van occurred around 9 p.m. Thursday at Sitio Batotil Til, Barangay Biayon, Sergio Osmeña.

The fatality was identified as Elgen Dumpa, 49, an ambulance driver of the Sergio Osmeña Municipal Hospital.

Wounded were Dennis Calisagan, 39, the container van driver, and Ryan Casiong, 26, Dumpa’s companion.

Investigation showed that the van loaded with sacks of rice was traveling from Molave, Zamboanga del Sur to Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte when it collided head-on with the ambulance.

The ambulance was traveling from Dipolog City to Sergio Osmeña at the time of the incident.

The police said Dumpa failed to reach the hospital alive.
