LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Nov. 17 (PNA)-- The Pangasinan provincial government, in cooperation with the Pangasinan Chess League (PCL), will stage the 6th Pangasinan Chess Championship at the Provincial Training and Development Center here on Nov. 19 to 20 this year.
The competition is open for chess players from Pangasinan and the provinces of Benguet, La Union, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac and Zambales.
The tournament is divided into three categories, namely: Open Category, for all players regardless of title, rating or age; Junior Category for players born on Jan. 1, 1998 or later; and Kiddie Categories for players born on Jan. 1, 2004 or later.
At stake are cash prizes: (Open Category) 1st Place PHP7,000, 2nd Place PHP5,000, 3rd Place PHP3,000, 4th Place PHP2,000, 5th Place PHP1,000, 6th to 15th Place PHP500 each; (Junior Category) 1st Place PHP5,000, 2nd Place PHP4,000, 3rd Place PHP3,000, 4th Place PHP2,000, 5th Place PHP1,000, 6th to 10th Place PHP500 each; (Kiddie Category) 1st Place PHP3,000, 2nd Place PHP2,000, 3rd Place PHP1,000, 4th Place PHP750, 5th to 10th Place PHP500 each; (Special Category Prizes) Top Senior—60 years old and above PHP500 and Top Female Player PHP500.
Participants are advised to bring with them any document that could show proof of their age and residence.
The tournament is part of the Pangasinan Chess Festival 2016, which will culminate with the 8th Gov. Amado Espino Cup Open Chess Tournament in December.
