THE Regional Council for the Welfare of Children (RCWC) has been accepting pencil donations in line with the One Million Lapis campaign of the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC).

Launched in April this year, the campaign aims to collect one million pencils to be given to underprivileged students in elementary schools of 4th to 6th class municipalities and to set a record in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The campaign is also part of the celebration of the 2016 National Children’s Month celebration in November.

“Individuals, groups, companies and institutions willing to share their pencils are welcome to join the campaign,” said DSWD 7 Director Ma. Evelyn B. Macapobre.

She said that donors may drop the pencils at the drop boxes found in various national government agencies and its regional offices and in all SM Supermalls.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 7 also accepts pencil donations from the public and its staff.

At present, the DSWD collected 18,515 pencils donated by the staff and other agencies like Children’s Legal Bureau, Department of Health, Philippine National Police, National Economic Development Authority, National Nutrition Council, and Department of Interior and Local Government.

Final counting and official declaration of Lapis generated will be on Nov. 5, 2016 as a kick-off activity of the 2016 National Children’s Month celebration.
