Game Saturday (Tubod, Lanao del Norte)
TUBOD, Lanao del Norte, Nov. 14 (PIA) -- Ginebra didn’t need any miracle comeback or an overtime period to beat Shopinas.com. One brilliant quarter was more than enough.

The league’s most popular ball club came through with a huge run in the 2nd quarter, and the Kings glided their way to a convincing 92-79 victory over the Clickers to spring back into the winning track in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup, here, Saturday night of Nov. 11.
6:45 p.m. – Barangay Ginebra vs Shopinas.com
Well aware of the ability of Shopinas.com to pull off its very first win in the season-opening tournament, Ginebra tore the game apart by heavily outscoring the bottom-dwelling franchise, 33-13, in the 2nd period, and in the process collected its 4rth win in eight games while dealing Shopinas.com its 9th loss in a row.

That blast the Kings unloaded turned a shaky 20-18 advantage to 53-31 at the halftime break.
MANILA, Philippines — The nine-day break gave B-Meg the opportunity to improve the ‘triangle offense’ as mentor Tim Cone played to his new team old clips of the Chicago Bulls title campaigns in the 90s by Michel Jordan, Scottie Pippen and coach Phil Jackson.
Ginebra stretched it further to 27 (59-32) on a pair of free throws by Nino Canaleta in the 3rd quarter, and it more or less plucked away the Clickers’ fighting spirit in the Phoenix Fuel-backed match.

In that 2nd period, the Clickers committed six errors and gave away 10 points off turnovers.
The strategy paid off for the Llamados as they ran the ‘triangle offense’ with better execution as they avenged a first round defeat by thrashing the Meralco Bolts, 95-79, in the PBA Philippine Cup last night at the Astrodome in Pasay City.
While this was a victory that gave Ginebra a sweep of its head-to-head duel with Shopinas.com in the elimination round, the result was far from the manner by which the Kings won the 1st encounter, last Oct. 26.

In that contest, Ginebra trailed by five points with 55.2 seconds left to play in regulation, but somehow conjured a magical comeback to send the game into extra time and eventually won it, 94-90.
B-Meg opened a 22-point advantage late in the second period, 53-31, on a jumper by PJ Simon, but Meralco rallied back in the third quarter as it cut the deficit to five points, 63-68, on a three-pointer by Sol Mercado.
Willy Wilson scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds, Caneleta had 12 points, and Jay-Jay Helterbrand, fast re-discovering his touch from the long court, added 10 points for the Kings.

RJ Jazul led the Clickers with 11 points while Dennis Daa and James Sena contributed 10 apiece.
However, Simon and James Yap delivered the big baskets for the Llamados in the final frame to help their team rebound from an 84-78 loss to the Bolts last Oct. 15 as they improved to 4-4, just half-game behind Meralco’s 5-4 card.
So miserable were the Clickers that they merely shot 35.8 percent from the field, converting just 29 of their 81 attempts. The Kings had a decent 43 percent clip on 33-of-76 shooting.

The scores: Ginebra (92) - W. Wilson 12, Canaleta 12, Helterbrand 10, Villanueva 9, De Ocampo 9, J. Wilson 9, Caguioa 8, Cervantes 6, Tubid 5, Labagala 5, Cortez 3, Intal 2, Aquino 2.
In the other game, Rain or Shine regained the solo lead with a 93-81 defeat of Barako Bull. The Elasto Painters improved to 7-1 thanks to 17 points from rookie Paul Lee.
Shopinas.com (79) - Jazul 11, Daa 10, Sena 10, Mirza 10, Hubalde 7, Sison 5, Duncil 5, Ritualo 5, Menor 5, Espiritu 5, Se 4, Aquino 0, Hermida 0.

Quarterscores: 20-18, 53-31, 72-50, 92-79. (PIO/PIA-10)
Yap, a former two-time Most Valuable Player (MVP), led B-Meg with a personal conference-high 25 points, while Simon contributed 17 points, 12 in the fourth quarter before he left with a sprained right ankle with 2:27 left to play.

Kerby Raymundo, who had 15 points, completed a three-point play for a 76-66 lead with 8:41 remaining in the game.

“I think we spent the first half of the conference trying to play the triangle. But now we’re really learning. We had the patterns, the knowledge in our pockets. It’s just a matter of growing and evolving the system,” said Cone.

“We watched some Bulls games (during the nine-day break), we worked on specifics of the ‘triangle’. This is the time where we have to make a surge, make our move,” added Cone.
