==Fiestas and Traditions of Mercedes, Zamboanga City==
Aside from the yearly celebration of the barangay fiesta, which is celebrated every September 24 in honor of Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes (Our Lady of Ransom), another tradition that is being done by almost all the Mercedeños is the celebration of Christ's Death and Passion, literally known as the Santo Entierro, images depicting Christ's passion and death and owned by the prominent and old families of Mercedes, are paraded along the streets of the old Calle Real in observance of the Holy Week. Some of these images were family heirlooms and handed down from one generation to the other. Some of these images were the Santo Sepulcro or the Dead Christ, owned by the Carpio Clan, the Scourging at the Pillar by the Rivera's Family, the Pieta and Agony in the Garden, both owned by the Toribio Clan, the Nazarene, the Domingo Ramos and Jesus speaks with the women of Jerusalem, owned by the Perezes among many others.
