ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal- The Binangonan Ecological Solid Waste Management Office (BESWMO) and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) held a tree-planting activity at Brgy. Macamot, Binangonan as a climate change adaptation initiative by the municipal government.
ANTIPOLO CITY- The Rizal Provincial Government spearheaded by Special Events Council Chair Governor Jun Ynares recently announced that the nominations for the 2012 Anak ng Lahing Bayani (ALAB) ng Rizal award are open.

The activity was held from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. yesterday in line with Earth Day.
The ALAB ng Rizal award aims to give special recognition to the province’s citizens who have excelled in their respective fields through excellence, achievements, and exemplary leadership qualities. According to Governor Ynares, the nominations will be accepted until May 11, 2012.

Around 100 assorted mahogany, pomelo, langka, and acacia trees were planted by 90 participants consisting of employees from the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Sangguniang Bayan officials, barangay chairmen, and councilors.
This year’s ALAB ng Rizal, managed by the Rizal Provincial Government’s Special Event’s Council, will coincide with the 111th Araw ng Lalawigan ng Rizal.

According to waste management office officer-in-charge Jesus Laurente, “The 100 trees we planted will add to the current ‘carbon dioxide eating’ plants in the vicinity helping regulate the greenhouse gases.
The provincial government encourages different sectors to submit their nominees for the award considered to be the highest recognition to be given to a Rizaleno.

According to him, the waste management office works with the disaster management office which also plays a major role in climate change adaptation programs.
According to the ALAB Secretariat at the Rizal Provincial Information and Special Concerns Office, various media have been used for the dissemination of the nomination forms, including the social media, to ensure a wider scope of distribution.

The municipal government is also looking to organize other similar tree planting and climate change adaptation programs in the future.
