Four suspected New People's Army rebels were killed following a clash with government security forces in Quezon province Friday, a military report said.

At 12:10 p.m., elements of the Army's 85th Infantry Battalion engaged six insurgents who reportedly intruded the house of one Zenaida Guzo in Peñafrancia village in Lopez town.
LUCENA CITY, Quezon- The National Statistics Office (NSO), Quezon provincial office through their field staff and selected trained interviewers will conduct an updating of the list of establishments in Quezon province starting May 2 until June 2012.

"The rebels fired their guns when my soldiers approached the house. The soldiers used their excellent marksmanship skills to engage the armed rebels who refused to surrender despite the demand from the soldiers," the report quoted battalion commander, Lt. Col. Oliver Maquiling, as saying.
According to NSO, Quezon provincial office headed by Irene Pucyutan, provincial statistics officer, updating of list of establishments in the province involves the capture and listing of the characteristics of “new” establishments, updating of the status and characteristics of old establishments or those that have already been included in the data base, delisting of closed establishments and identification of out of scope units.

Two of the rebels died on the spot. The other rebel fatalities where declared dead on arrival by local hospital doctors. The two other rebels escaped while no government casualties were reported. Recovered from the rebels were two M16 rifles and one M653 rifle.
Pucyutan also said the updated data base of establishments will provide the NSO a reliable sampling frame for its business and industry censuses and surveys. The data that will be collected also serves as a guide to government planning, policy making and monitoring, basis of marketing plants, opportunities and prospects and input to evaluation, market research and comparative studies. Thus, the agency looks forward to the full cooperation and support for the undertaking not only from national and local government agencies but also from the private sector , particularly the business associations.

No civilians died during the clash, Maquiling said. "Mrs. Guzo revealed that her husband and son are both unscathed in the firefight. Both of them are cooperating with the police in the investigation."
Relative to this, the NSO, Quezon provincial office will hold a the training for 27 interviewers or hired statistical researchers as part of the preparation for the comprehensive door to door canvassing of establishments in 40 municipalities and two cities in Quezon province.

Less than two weeks ago, 3 rebels were also killed in another clash with the Army in San Francisco town, the same military report said.
NSO upon request of government and public users only provides summary of information from the list of establishments such as the counts of establishments with disaggregation by industry, by employment size, by region and by selected area up to the barangay level.
