TANAY, Rizal — As tourist arrivals in this town continue, police and local government unit (LGU) personnel are doubling their efforts to provide security to the thousands of tourists who come to different summer destinations in this town.
ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal- Representatives of the CALABARZON Regional Risk Reduction and Management Council (RRMC) held their 2nd Quarterly Meeting for the year yesterday at the OCD-NDRRMC Conference Room, Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.


Supt. Felipe Abigan, chief of police, said he has deployed uniformed policemen in major tourist destinations including the place called Regina Rosarii Institute for Contemplation in Asia, or Regina RICA for short, where a giant statue of Virgin Mary can be found on the mountain of Barangay Sampaloc, in this town.
RDRRMC IV-A conducted a joint meeting to convene on disaster preparedness and response, wherein issues on both aspects of DRRM were discussed hand in hand as both committees share overlapping components.
 
RDRRMC IV-A Response Committee Chair and DSWD IV-A Director Vilma Naviamos said during the meeting that the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan was recently signed and aims to give committee members and the different sectors a clearer understanding of DRRM.
 
Also present during the meeting were Preparedness Commitee chair and DILG IV-A Director Josefina Go, RDRRMC IV-A Director Vicente Tomazar, and representatives from various government agencies under the disaster preparedness and response committees, respectively.
 
Representatives from the CALABARZON Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (PDRRMO) were also invited to lay down the local governments DRRM plans. PDRRMOs from the provinces of Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon also presented their respective preparedness and response plans to the committees.
 
NDRMMC Executive Director and Department of National Defense Undersecretary Benito T. Ramos, who was present during the earlier part of the meeting, reminded the committees that civil defense and disaster risk reduction and management also encompasses preparations done for manmade disasters such as military conflict.
 
Usec. Ramos also asked members of the committee to actively cooperate with the NDRRMC and other government agencies in handling disasters and other similar situations.
