| BUENAVISTA, Quezon- Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman held a dialogue recently with parent leader-beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in this municipality.
| | LUCENA CITY, Quezon- The provincial government of Quezon and SM City Lucena launched "Hello Quezon: I love my town, I love my province," a project aiming to showcase local festivals and tourist destinations in the province. |
| |
| Soliman observed the conduct of family development sessions (FDS) and consulted the beneficiaries on its effects. The consultation was also aimed to gather inputs to further improve the implementation of 4Ps in relation to the education and health of the children of the beneficiaries.
| | According to Lilibeth Azores, SM public relations manager, the project is a partnership of the local government and SM City to promote prime festivals, culture, culinary and places in Quezon. |
| |
| During the dialogue, the parent leaders expressed the same opinion that the value of open communication and the importance of recognizing the role of each family member were reinforced through the FDS.
| | “We will feature local festivals in SM City’s event center every week from April 13 until May 19. This is the support of SM malls in the tourism development program of the government,” Azores added. |
| |
| They also expressed the need for the family-beneficiary to be provided with livelihood in preparation for the eventual termination of the program. Among the livelihood activities suggested by parent leaders were pig raising and vending.
| | Quezon Provincial Tourism Officer Alberto Bay Jr. said the program is one way of promoting the beauty of Quezon, its festivals, crafts, arts and its one town-one product (OTOP). |
| |
| In response, Sec. Soliman said the project development officer assigned in their locality will conduct an assessment on the possible livelihood activities that the beneficiaries can engage in under the Self Employment Assistance-Kaunlaran (SEA-K) program of the DSWD.
| | Bay added that among the festivals that will be featured are Arana’t Baluarte of Gumaca, Bulihan festival of Sampaloc; Agawan festival of Sariaya; Hambujan festival of Dolores; Tagultol fishing festival of Atimonan; and Maubanog festival of Mauban. |
| |
| She also took the opportunity to inquire from the male parents present during the activity if they agree with the arrangement that the wives handle the automated teller machine (ATM) instead of them as head of the family. All the male parents present gave their affirmative approval, saying that they understand the rationale behind the arrangement.
| | He said that the vision of the provincial government is that by 2016, Quezon province will be in the tourism map of the Philippines and of the world, adding that the effort of SM and other organizations will gear to boost the tourism industry in the province. |
| | |
| Before ending the dialogue, Sec Soliman shared that the DSWD is currently exploring the possibilities of making the conduct of the grant subsidy pay-outs less expensive for the beneficiaries – either it will be conducted within the municipality or if possible directly to their doorsteps, through conduit partner organization.
| |
| | |
| The parent leaders who participated in the dialogue thanked Sec. Soliman for taking time to be with them and in responding personally to their inquiries and sharing the good news relative to the implementation of 4Ps in their locality.
