ILAGAN, Isabela- The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) told the public that there is “no cause for panic” on the set launching of an earth observation satellite by the Democratic People Republic of North Korea.
Provincial Administrator Atty. Noel Manuel R. Lopez, who temporarily presided the urgent meeting of the PDRRMC, said that the public should stay calm but should always be vigilant in reporting any eventuality that may occur when North Korea has launched its rocket-carrying satellite.
Based on the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) memorandum dated April 3, the council is directed to monitor developments and prepare contingency plans in the event that the rockets veers of course and fall in territorial waters.
Henceforth, as the counterpart of the NDRRMC, the province’s risk reduction council has convened and made preparations ans necessary precautions in the event that the rocket satellite will change it course.
Lopez, upon instruction of chairman of the PDRRMC, has instructed the Isabela Police Provincial Office to prohibit residents and sea travelers in the coastal towns of Isabela on April 12 to 16 as a precautionary measure in case the rocket satellite missile of North Korea will change its trajectory.
Lopez also ordered the PDRRMC secretariat to prepare radio messages to local government officials in the coastal towns of Isabela to prepare contingency measure.
“Please reiterate to the public that there should be no cause for panic," Lopez said.
The provincial social welfare and development office is now coordinating with the local government units in the four coastal town of Isabela and has prohibited residents to go on fishing. Relief goods will be distributed to them from April 12 to 16 to help them while they are not yet allowed to fish in the Pacific ocean.
The Bureau of Fire Protection, the Philippine Red Cross, and the Philippine Army are ordered to stand by in securing and retrieving any rocket debris that may fall in the province.
