BINANGONAN, Rizal — The partnership of the local government and the police here resulted in the orderly observance of the Holy Week in this lakeshore town of the province.
ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal- The Rizal Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction and Management Office (RPDRRMO) recorded minimal injuries and untoward incidences during the Holy Week.


Chief Inspector Bartolome Marigondon, officer-in-charge of the police here, said authorities have kept petty criminals at bay as police and local security personnel worked hand-in-hand in securing the religious destinations in this town.
Philippine National Red Cross-Rizal Chapter designated four first aid stations in Cainta- St. Joseph, Cainta-Junction, Kay Tikling and Taytay-Melendres to give assistance to the participants of the traditional Alay Lakad from Maundy Thursday to Good Friday. An ambulance was also stationed at the Tikling station for emergency cases which require immediate transportation to hospitals.


“The presence of uniformed cops in various tourist spots and religious pilgrimage sites here, including the Saint Ursula Church, one of the oldest churches of the province which was built in the 17th century, and the place known here as ‘Kalbaryo,’ was an effective way of deterring crime during the peak of Holy Week activities last Maundy Thursday and Good Friday,” said Marigondon.
Only 26 minor wound cases were reported and treated whereas only a single major case which required transportation via ambulance was reported.


Policemen and local security personnel were equipped with handheld radios which enabled them to quickly respond to emergency situations or any incidents that may require the presence of persons in authority.
Common casualties included minor injuries such as sprains, blisters, wounds and abrasions. However there was also a single case of epileptic seizure and 28 incidences which required taking the blood pressure of devotees due to dizziness and exhaustion.


Policemen said the peace and order program of the police station complemented the peace and order drive of the administration of Mayor Cecilio “Boyet” Ynares who initiated measures to keep the town the center of education and tourism in the province.
Aside from reports from the stations, minor incidences were also reported through text messaging, such as two minor cases from Cainta-St. Joseph.


The town has the Angono-Binangonan Petroglyphs, Talim Island, Puente Del Diablo and other nature rich tourists spots in the country that are alternative for the summer get-aways of local and foreign tourists.
The PDRRMO is aiming to maintain and improve its positive performance for the next Lenten season as well as in other major gatherings within its jurisdiction.
