LUCENA CITY, Quezon- The regional office of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) here is optimistic that their target of coconut production this year will double if not triple because of the different programs it has been implementing.
PAGBILAO, Quezon- The Quezon Provincial Police Office (QPPO) and Quezon Provincial Public Safety Company (QPPSC) will manage the traffic flow in barangays Ibabang Palsabangon, Binahaan and Silangang Malicboy in this town where roads are under construction.

Among the projects the PCA have been undertaken are the intensified planting of coconut seedlings and distribution of agricultural salt as fertilizer to existing coconut trees.
According to Police Sr. Supt. Valeriano de Leon, he instructed the QPPSC and the local police station to manage the traffic in said barangays for 24 hours to manage the flow of vehicles going to and coming from the regions of Bicol and Visayas.

The PCA is also pushing for the establishment of a laboratory for the Brontispa, the pest that has been affecting and causing the loss of coconut trees to hasten and effectively eliminate the pest.
“Since March 27, the PNP is manning the flow of traffic in the said areas. We make sure that the flow of traffic is organized and we put up traffics signs from the town of Tiaong to Padre Burgos, Quezon to inform the commuters about the traffic situation in the said barangays,” De Leon said.

Moreover, the PCA is not only focusing on programs that would improve coconut farming but as well as steps that would help improve the lives of coconut farmers particularly those who are indigents.
He added that the QPPO has released advisories to local radio stations and media groups to broadcast the traffic situations in the town.

These include establishment of cooperatives, conduct of livelihood trainings for farmers including the women sector, and educational assistance to children of small coconut farmers.
Recently, Quezon Governor David Suarez called a meeting with PNP, DPWH and local officials of Pagbilao to discuss the remedy for the worsening traffic condition in the area.

Meanwhile, the Kabalikat radio communication group will assist the PNP in the traffic management in the area this Lenten season.
