ILAGAN, Isabela- The Energy Development Corporation (EDC) owned by the Lopez Group of Companies turned-over last Friday to the provincial government of Isabela its established nursery located at Villa Imelda, Ilagan, Isabela. | |||
EDC Chairman Emeritus Oscar Lopez personally turned over the nursery to Governor Faustino G. Dy III, and the ceremony was witnessed by other local officials of Isabela and Ilagan town. | |||
Lopez said that the company has shared its tasks of regreening the Sierra Madre mountains as it has planted almost 200,00 hectares of forest trees in Isabela. | |||
He acknowledged the provincial government for offering an area where the nursery was established in the year 2008 and served as seedling propagation area of forest tree seedlings that were planted in the Northern Sierra Madre mountains. | |||
“Our objective in reforesting the denuded Sierra Madre mountains is in support to the National Greening Program of the government," Lopez said. | |||
He said EDC has gone on a nationwide reforestation activity as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility. | |||
Governor Faustino G. Dy III said that the mega nursery will be a big help to the unemployed residents in the area, adding that it will be a venue for the residents in the area to earn income. | |||
“Our residents here will surely benefit from this mega nursery because they will be hired as care taker of the seedlings. In return, we would to assure cooperative that manages the propagation of seedlings of support from the provincial government," Dy said. | |||
Dy said the provincial government fully supports the reforestation projects of groups who wanted to help the government in re-greening the deforested forests. | |||
The provincial government also ordered a total log ban to ensure that the remaining forests in the province are protected and preserve for the next generation. | |||
