LUCENA CITY, Quezon- The provincial government of Quezon through the provincial chest center has launched a Directly Observed Treatment Short Course (DOTS) center at the provincial chest center, March 26.
LUCENA CITY- National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), the sole transmission utility in the country, conducted information campaign thru radio guestings in Quezon province on March 26-27.

Dr. Erlinda Caparros Ploria, provincial government assistant department head and chief of the chest center said the launching of the DOTS center is required by the Department of Health. The center with DOTS package will assist patients through free sputum check ups and free medicines. The center will also assist people with cases of tuberculosis through the ”tutok gamutan” under the serbisyong Suarez program.
Massive information campaigns focused on the discussion on Republic Act 7832 or the anti-pilferage law and anti electrocution campaigns.

Quezon Governor David Suarez in his message during the flag raising ceremony expressed all-out support to the Department of Health (DoH) in the awareness campaign program against tuberculosis disease.
NGCP Regional Corporate Communication Officer for South Luzon Mr. Nelson S., Bautista said the campaigns aim to reduce the pilferage cases in areas within Quezon and avoid recurrence of electrocution incidents especially this coming summer season. “ As per report there are still incidents of pilferage in the province of Quezon. He also stressed the devastating effect when the towers toppled due to stolen tower parts. The effect are brown-outs and damage to life and properties of the people living in the area” he added.

The campaign against tuberculosis is continuously conducted by the provincial chest center according to Ploria. To avoid tuberculosis disease one must stay healthy by eating vegetables and nutritious foods, avoid smoking and “ huwag magpuyat,” Dr. Ploria added.
The campaigns thru mass media is a regular activity by NGCP conducted annually during summer aside from other several activities being implemented by NGCP in addressing pilferage and electrocution issues. NGCP believes that media is one of the best instruments in reaching the general public. Aside from tapping local practitioners, NGCP also seek assistance of police officers and implement a collaborative program with them.

Meanwhile, the provincial chest center will also conduct on March 29 free fasting blood sugar screening and ECG for free.
During interviews in several radio stations in Lucena City, Bautista discussed some tips to avoid electrocution due to high voltage lines. Incidents include kite flying, antennae installation, flaglets hanging and building development underneath transmission lines.
He also appealed to all listeners and residents to help NGCP in protecting facilities. He stressed that these facilities remain under government properties and as Filipino citizen everyone is responsible to take care of it. “Under the law, anyone who violates can be punished of 12 years to 20 years imprisonment and a fine from P50,000 to 100,000” Bautista further explained.

Relative to the campaign, fifty to sixty local radio stations located in Quezon, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Albay and Sorsogon pledged support to this valuable NGCP Advocacy Campaign.
