TAYABAS, Quezon- The Bureau of Agriculture and Statistics Office (BASO) Quezon provincial operation center continues to assist Quezon farmers including non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and local government units (LGUs) through production and marketing analysis service.
LUCENA CITY, Quezon- The provincial government of Quezon through the provincial chest center has launched a Directly Observed Treatment Short Course (DOTS) center at the provincial chest center, March 26.

Provincial Agricultural Statistics Officer (PASO) Raul Maximo B. Tolentino said the skills in analyzing statistical data or information will help farmers in planting agricultural commodities such as bitter gourd, carrots, squash, eggplant, sweet potato and calamansi at the right time and price.
Dr. Erlinda Caparros Ploria, provincial government assistant department head and chief of the chest center said the launching of the DOTS center is required by the Department of Health. The center with DOTS package will assist patients through free sputum check ups and free medicines. The center will also assist people with cases of tuberculosis through the ”tutok gamutan” under the serbisyong Suarez program.

BAS has conducted two consultative meetings on marketing information needs assessment (MINA), the first meeting held last October 18, 2011 while the second meeting one was held last March 16, 2012 in Tayabas. These meetings were attended by Quezon farmers, NGOs and LGUs.
Quezon Governor David Suarez in his message during the flag raising ceremony expressed all-out support to the Department of Health (DoH) in the awareness campaign program against tuberculosis disease.

MINA aims to identify major markets or trading centers and their operations, study the provincial marketing system for priority agricultural commodities and to determine the information needs of marketing participants.
The campaign against tuberculosis is continuously conducted by the provincial chest center according to Ploria. To avoid tuberculosis disease one must stay healthy by eating vegetables and nutritious foods, avoid smoking and “ huwag magpuyat,” Dr. Ploria added.

The commodities considered and agreed by stakeholders for MINA during the first consultative meeting include rice, yellow corn, cassava, sweet potato, amplaya, eggplant, squash, carrots, banana, calamansi, hogs and Threadfin bream (bisugo) while the commodities considered for MINA during the second consultative meeting are rice, bitter gourd, squash, eggplant, carrots, calamansi and sweet potatoes.
Meanwhile, the provincial chest center will also conduct on March 29 free fasting blood sugar screening and ECG for free.

The study is also considering the establishment of the production and marketing analysis service which will help farmers analyze and interpret statistical information which will guide them in their planting schedule. Proper timing of planting and harvesting will result to better return of investment that can uplift farmers' income.
