ATIMONAN, Quezon- The municipal government of Atimonan has allotted P4 million fund intended for the development of  Quezon protected landscape and other  related tourism projects and activities to be implemented  this year, 2012  in this town.
LUCBAN, Quezon- The wife of the vice mayor here died while the latter and their driver were seriously injured in a vehicular accident in Bgy. Tiawe yesterday morning.


Cecilia de Torres, acting tourism officer of the municipal government of Atimonan said promotion of tourism is this town is one of their priority projects  under the leadership of Mayor Atty. Jose C. Mendoza.
Sketchy reports reaching the office of Senior Supt. Valeriano de Leon, the newly installed Quezon OIC provincial police director, disclosed that the couple was on board a car driven by their unidentified security driver on their way home when the incident happened at around 10 a.m.


The projects to be implemented that  are under the municipal  tourism action plan aimed to continue the development of Quezon Protected Landscape as the center of tourism activity in Atimonan as well as the development and protection of natural sites in Atimonan into an ideal and  known tourist destination.
Reports said Vice Mayor Armando Abutal and his wife Catalina both suffered severe injuries causing the latter’s instant death.


It also aims to stimulate livelihood through identification of local products that can promote hometown identity, instill cultural awareness, identity and sense of pride among Atimonanins and to enhance artistic, cultural and management skills on creative aspects  of tourism and heritage dissemination.
The town official and the driver who also sustained multiple injuries are now undergoing treatment at a hospital in Lucena City.


Among the projects to be implemented this year, 2012 includes maintenance and development of Quezon National Forest Park which is composed of site development  and landscaping of zigzag park rest area, construction of drainage, roadway, water pipeline, and reservoir and parking area, initial improvement of Pinagbanderahan, landscaping of park entrance and continuing installation of  lights at the Quezon National Park.
Reports did not disclose what caused the accident but it was learned that the car they were riding in turned turtle.
 
Other tourism related projects to be done are the improvement/ maintenance of historical sites, landmarks and parks such as the iskong bantay tower, atimonang and guinto park sirena and the construction of tourist information center at barangay Sta. Catalina.
 
The municipal government will also conduct identification and development of local products that can promote hometown identity, training and marketing support for initiatives on local heritage livelihood projects such as tinapang isda (smoked fish), reflexology and traditional healing, souvenir items for local raw materials,” lokal na lutuin at pagkain” and handicrafts”.
 
Under manpower development program, training of  cultural workers, youth and students on development of artistic, cultural and heritage skills and dissemination shall be held through the following activities: summer dance and music workshop, cultural and eco-tourism  training for volunteers  and continuing training of LGU- DYD dance troupe.Under tourism promotions and dissemination, the following shall done also: tri-media promotion campaign, maintenance of tourism website and holding of tourism summit.
