SANTIAGO CITY, Isabela- The National Food Authority (NFA) 2 has started to buy palay from farmers to replenish the bulk of rice that was sent to National Capital Region in February this year. | |||
The agency sent 400,000 cavans of rice to augment the rice requirement of the NCR. | |||
NFA 2 regional director Ruben Reside said their warehouses in the region were ordered to purchase palay harvest of farmers. | |||
Reside said the NFA regional office intends to buy 2, 393, 467 bags this year, based on the five percent mandated purchase from the region’s total palay production. | |||
Region 2 is projected to produce 47, 869, 346 bags this year and five percent of this total production is at 2.393 million. | |||
Reside said the buying price of rice of NFA is still at P17 per kilo and there is a P1 price support from the provincial government of Isabela. | |||
For this year, the provincial government has allotted another P14.8 million for the price support to help Isabela farmers regain their losses brought by the recent calamities in the province. | |||
