POLILIO, Quezon- Police arrested a couple for possession of three unlicensed firearms and illegal drugs worth P200,000 during a search inside their residence in Sitio Buslit, Bgy. Poblacion, here, at 4 a.m. Tuesday.
LUCENA CITY, Quezon- There is no denying the large number of rabies cases in the city of Lucena and government is doing something about it. DILG director Teodorica Vizcarra urged the city government to create an  anti-rabies control coordinating council that will supervise and coordinate the implementation of anti-rabies program in this city.

Quezon police director Senior Supt. Ericson Velasquez identified the suspect as  Welbert Quinto, 30, and his live-in partner, Rosalie Susteno, 29, both of Bgy. Poblacion.
“Controlling the incidence of dog bites is the best solution to decrease rabies cases. Having a council that will supervise and implement anti-rabies program will lessen the burden of the veterinary office in the campaign of eliminating rabies cases," Vizacarra added.

Mayor Jojie Versoza and Barangay Chairman Reynaldo Portales said the raid was led by town police head Insp. Eric Veluz, backed by Army soldiers headed by 2Lt. Von Bryan Tayongtong.
City veterinarian Dr. Winston Avillo admitted that they have no record of the total population of dogs in the city because only those who availed of the anti-rabies vaccination are registered in their office, thus stray dogs are excluded.

He said Quinto was one of the suspects arrested by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and members of the Real, Quezon Police Station in a raid in 2008.
Councilor Amer Lacerna encouraged the city veterinary office to strengthen the information campaign on the prevention of dog bites and allocate additional doses of free vaccines. He said only one dose of anti-rabies vaccine is given free while the succeeding vaccines are charged.

The raid was conducted by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Arnelio Mesa of Infanta Regional Trial Court Branch 65 for violation of RA 9165. Seized were seven plastic sachets of shabu, wallet containing P33,309, several foreign currency bills, three home-made cal. .38 revolvers, two P500 bills, two P20 bills and drug paraphernalia.
According to the city health office, the supply of anti-rabies vaccines is not sufficient to the number of persons that are bitten by dogs, that’s why they just give free  dose of vaccine.

A police insider said the high-grade shabu weighing 41 grams was worth P200,000.
In response to this, the city health office has focused on the prevention of dog bites by conducting regular assembly in the barangays.

Velasquez said Quinto tried to escape but he was quickly collared by the lawmen. The couple was brought to Infanta for inquest while the drugs were brought to Quezon Police Crime Laboratory Office for examination.

In a phone interview, Versoza said the suspects have been under police surveilance following intelligence reports that they are the source of drugs in the island.
