LUCENA CITY, Quezon — The celebration of Women’s Month is given special importance in this province with the completion of the new Quezon Medical Center (QMC) annex building which will house a women’s health center.
LUCENA City- The Department of Agriculture is teaming up with the government-owned Radio ng Bayan broadcast station to bring the good news of agricultural reforms, innovations and success stories to the listening grassroots sector across the country.

Quezon Governor David C. Suarez said yesterday that the newly constructed medical facility will offer medical services for those suffering from cervix and breast cancers and ailments most associated with women. Medical experts on women’s health will be running the facility.
Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala told the Philippine Broadcasting Service (PBS), which operates all government television and 32 radio stations including DWLC-Radyo ng Bayan-Lucena, that the DA is ready to bring the good news to a wide swath of the listening public now that its programs of agricultural reforms and innovations are in place.

As guest of honor and speaker during the 23rd DWLC held on Wednesday at the Kalilayan Hall here, Alcala reiterated that the country will no longer be importing rice from other countries after 2013 but instead will export it to them.

Explaining that the country is slowly gaining ground in its rice self-sufficiency program in 2013, Alcala said the country imported about 2.4 metric tons of rice in 2010, whittled it down to 860,000 metric tons last year and about 500,000 this year with the continuous increase of local rice production.

He said that he was given the marching order of President. Benigno Aquino to introduce agricultural reforms and innovations and that the DA thrust now is to reintegrate various programs and activities in agriculture, introduce economies of scale and help the farmers sell his products in the market.

“We are trying to bring up production of rice, vegetables, livestocks, seafoods and introducing food processing and replicating the Sariaya experience of establishing Sentrong Pamilihan (vegetable trading center) in other parts of the country, facing the agricultural challenges head-on just to improve the lives of the farmers in the country,” Alcala said in his speech.

Also present were 201st Infantry Brigade commander Col. Eduardo Año, Quezon police director Senior Supt. Erickson Velasquez, Task Force Lucena commander Col. Narciso Alamag, Lucena City Vice Mayor Rhoderick Alcala and heads of various government agencies and private sector representatives.
