SANTIAGO CITY, Isabela- A number of village women were gathered at the community center of Barangay Sagana, Santiago City to undergo a training on using recyclable materials last Saturday, March 3, aimed at helping them earn income while at home. | |||
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Santiago City employee Alicia Alejandro led the training particularly in decorative souvenir items and corsages out of plastic wastes. | |||
Alejandro said women residents usually do not have additional income after rice and corn planting and she said it is indeed necessary to provide skills to women in order to earn income while at home. | |||
Alejandro taught women how to make decorative products out from plastic water containers (mineral water bottles) into useful products and can be sold to the neighbors or to the local market. | |||
She also said that the use of recycled materials into income-generating items would help decrease waste products from the bulk of waste materials produced in the city. | |||
Anazon Balcita, one of the women who attended the training, lauded the concern of city government in coordination with the local television network in the city in providing skills training in order to help them earn income. | |||
“We learn how to save recycle materials now after knowing its uses, either as decorative souvenir items or as corsages”, Balcita said. | |||
Aside from earning using recyclable materials, they can also help in the government’s program in the reduction of waste products in the city. | |||
The activity also coincides with the celebration of Women’s Month this year. | |||
