CALAPAN CITY, Philippines – Local authorities released some 35 sea turtles in a fish sanctuary in Mansalay town in Oriental Mindoro. | |||
Governor Alfonso Umali Jr., together with town officials, simultaneously released the turtles in the waters off Sitio Palaypay in Del Mundo village. | |||
Local fishermen recovered the turtles after they roamed confusedly along the coastlines of Mansalay municipality. | |||
Umali said the provincial government is bent on protecting the endangered animals as part of his administration’s environmental protection. | |||
Through coordination and support extended by all local government units, almost all towns in Oriental Mindoro have their own turtle habitats. | |||
