CABARROGUIS, Quirino, Feb 4 (PIA) -- Fire Marshal Chief Inspector Santos Gawongna of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) here said that their continuous information and education campaign (IEC) in schools and barangays is paying off as shown in the decrease of fire incidents in the province. | |||
Gawongna said there were 13 fire incidents recorded in 2010 while there were only five in 2011. | |||
He said 12 of the fires were accidental, one intentional. “Last year, all the five incidents were accidental,” Gawongna further detailed. | |||
Gawongna said this can be attributed to the continuing information campaign that they are conducting in every barangay and in schools. | |||
For this year, the BFP has already conducted IEC in 68 out of the 132 barangays which is the agency’s main activity during the regular conduct of “I Love Quirino” caravan by the provincial government. | |||
“In the IEC, we educate the barangay folks on the prevention and suppression of all destructive fires on buildings, houses and other similar structures; forests; vehicles and equipment and petroleum industry installations,” Gawongna explained. | |||
