LUCENA CITY, Quezon- City medical officer of Department of Education (DepEd) Dr. Dante Diamante revealed in a radio interview at DWLC-Radyo ng Bayan that the flash flood occurred in the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan might also happened here because of the city’s same topography.
LUCENA CITY, Quezon– The provincial government of Quezon is determined to increase tax collection from the real properties this year.

Dr. Diamante said the city is surrounded by two big rivers, Iyam and Dumacaa, both connected to Tayabas Bay, thus this may cause flash floods if high tide and typhoon happen in one time.
In a radio interview at DZAT’s ‘Punto por Punto,’ provincial treasurer Malou Uy, said they are expecting P1.8 billion taxes from real property if the owners will religiously pay their taxes.

Diamante mentioned that on November 3, 2005 when typhoon Rosing struck this city, high flood waters coming from the two rivers overflowed the entire city, as it may happen again in the much disastrous form.
“We will intensify tax generation campaign by encouraging the owners of real properties in Quezon Province to pay their taxes,” Uy said.

‘I presented this scenario to the members of city disaster risk reduction management council (CDRRMC) during its regular meeting’, Diamante added.
According to Uy, if said amount will be collected, the basic services like health, education, agriculture, construction of school building and many developmental projects of the provincial government will be delivered efficiently to the poor residents in the province.

He recommended that the local government must have disaster preparedness plan, review the ‘geo-hazard’ map, enact ordinances, and strengthen people’s involvement before, during and after calamity.
She added if the local government collected the said amount, many poor residents will benefit and the living conditions of people in far-flung barangays will improve, adding that Quezon Governor David Suarez wants to prioritize the development of countryside.

Recently, the provincial government launched real property tax campaign to increase collection of taxes from the real properties.
