ALABAT, Quezon- The municipal government of Alabat will strengthen its tourism prowess to comply with the new campaign ‘It's More fun in the Philippines' of the Department of Tourism (DOT).
LUCENA CITY, Quezon- Inspired by the big success of ‘Gulayan sa Paaralan’ project last year, the provincial government of Quezon and the Department of Education (DepEd) are once more implementing the project in all public elementary and secondary schools in the whole province beginning School Year (SY) 2012-2013 in June this year.

Alabat Mayor Artemio Mascarinas said the island of Alabat has great potential as another diving spot in the Philippines because of its rich coral reefs and marine products.
Provincial Agriculturist Roberto Gajo said they are now preparing the contest modules and plant materials for this program. Schools with exceptional vegetable garden will receive large amount of prizes from the provincial government.

Mascarinas added that the 10-hectare fish sanctuary and giant clam shell are additional attractions in their town. The fishing grounds are over flowing with ‘talakitok’, ‘dukawin’ and ‘pawikan'.
The main objective of the contest, according to Gajo, is to teach school children in all public schools plant different varieties of vegetables for consumption of malnourished children in the school and sell others for extra income.

Recently, the municipal governments of Alabat and Perez agreed to intensify campaign on anti-illegal fishing in the island to preserve the natural beauty of their municipal waters.
Governor David Suarez wants schoolchildren in the province to be healthier through nourishment of vegetables to make them intelligent and active in the school, Gajo said, adding the ultimate goal of the project is to lessen if not eventually eradicate malnutrition in the province.

Aside from this, Mayor Mascarinas instructed the local tourism officer here to conduct a study on the development of caves in their town as another tourist destination.
Meanwhile, the provincial agriculture office will teach schoolchildren on the proper way of planting vegetables.

Meanwhile, the Quezon provincial tourism office will conduct ‘a value chain analysis’ on January 20 with the purpose of synchronization of all tourism activities in the province. This will be attended by all municipal tourism officers, transport groups, hotel and restaurant owners and other big players in the tourism industry.
